Using the Program

Download the latest version of the program from Releases & place the jar in a folder you would like to store the program's files in.

Open the program by double clicking the downloaded .jar

On some systems the Java working directory is not the same as the launch directory and files might be stored at the user directory - This will be improved on later.

Adding Games

ROM Tools supports most file formats for different consoles. If a file format is not supported, please open an issue so that it can be added.

Files

You can select multiple files. In addition to adding the game files, added .zip files will be extracted (Next to Rom-Tools.jar to 'extracted'-folder).

All contents of the selected folder will be added, even the game files that are in sub folders. The folders are searched recursively.

That's it, ROM tools will process the files (Progress can be seen in the bottom left corner) and the games will be added. If the files are moved or changed, the games related to them will be removed on the verification step next time you launch the program.

After adding games they can be selected in the Games-view.
You can select them individually by clicking the checkbox next to the games name.

In order to ease selection, a few tools are available to reduce the visible games on screen.

At the bottom left corner there is a search box. The search box supports searching in two ways.

  • Normal: You can type anything in the box and the search will find any games with the matching name.
  • Literal: You can start the search with quote character (") and the search will match Upper- & lowercase characters.

Filters

By clicking 'Filters' you can limit the consoles you want to see. By default all consoles are selected.
If you add games the filters are reset.

Acting upon selected games

After selecting games you can go to the Tools-view. In here you can act upon the files of the games you have selected.

Move to a single folder

This action will move all files of the selected games to the folder you choose. The original files which could be anywhere are moved, so they can no longer be found in their original location.

The moved games will be removed from the Games list so that you know that you have processed them.

Move under a folder in subfolders

This action will move all files of the selected games to the folder you choose, inside new subfolders. The original files which could be anywhere are moved, so they can no longer be found in their original location.

The names of the subfolders are set in the Settings tab

Copy to a single folder

This action will copy all files of the selected games to the folder you choose. The original files will still be found in their original location after the action.

Using the Program

Download the latest version of the program from Releases & place the jar in a folder you would like to store the program's files in.

Open the program by double clicking the downloaded .jar

On some systems the Java working directory is not the same as the launch directory and files might be stored at the user directory - This will be improved on later.

Adding Games

ROM Tools supports most file formats for different consoles. If a file format is not supported, please open an issue so that it can be added.

Files

You can select multiple files. In addition to adding the game files, added .zip files will be extracted (Next to Rom-Tools.jar to 'extracted'-folder).

All contents of the selected folder will be added, even the game files that are in sub folders. The folders are searched recursively.

Processing

That's it, ROM tools will process the files (Progress can be seen in the bottom left corner) and the games will be added. If the files are moved or changed, the games related to them will be removed on the verification step next time you launch the program.

Selecting Games

After adding games they can be selected in the Games-view.
You can select them individually by clicking the checkbox next to the games name.

In order to ease selection, a few tools are available to reduce the visible games on screen.

Normal searchLiteral search

At the bottom left corner there is a search box. The search box supports searching in two ways.

  • Normal: You can type anything in the box and the search will find any games with the matching name.
  • Literal: You can start the search with quote character (") and the search will match Upper- & lowercase characters.

Filters

By clicking 'Filters' you can limit the consoles you want to see. By default all consoles are selected.
If you add games the filters are reset.

Acting upon selected games

After selecting games you can go to the Tools-view. In here you can act upon the files of the games you have selected.

Move to a single folder

This action will move all files of the selected games to the folder you choose. The original files which could be anywhere are moved, so they can no longer be found in their original location.

The moved games will be removed from the Games list so that you know that you have processed them.

Move under a folder in subfolders

This action will move all files of the selected games to the folder you choose, inside new subfolders. The original files which could be anywhere are moved, so they can no longer be found in their original location.

The names of the subfolders are set in the Settings tab

This action will copy all files of the selected games to the folder you choose. The original files will still be found in their original location after the action.

All settings are saved to settings.conf next to the jar.

If the setting appears red it is incorrect format, and default value will be used instead.
