Should we add caching?

I think openSenseMap could potentially benefit from caching using e.g. redis or memcached.

Especially things that are accessed frequently like the position of devices in the world should see a performance gain.
Other things like the device state are very predictable in terms of caching and could possibly benefit.
For the latter, the cache simply needs to be invalidated when there is a new measurement added.

Ideally the cache integrates nicely into our react-router app via e.g. middleware or similar. It would also be nice if it can be controlled using basic HTTP mechanisms for compatibility.
It would also need to work with API routes that do not serve any UI.

Open for suggestions and ideas!

I like the idea! Since it's mainly a perfomance optimization, I would not assign highest priority. Let's try out the new openSenseMap first with large amounts of data and investigate potential bottlenecks before we implement caching. ;-)
