Objective

Preserve the newly supplied Afterglow character profiles as source evidence and turn them into a governed Character Truth + Arc Map across the canonical 24 Blocks / 96 Mini-Blocks.

The profiles contain backstory, formative conditions, motivations, relationships, intended emotional start/end states and arc direction. Much of that material is author knowledge, not necessarily information that should appear directly in the movie.

PlotPickle must use this material to understand why a character makes a choice and whether an arc is earned, without converting profile prose into automatic screenplay exposition or silently replacing current canon.

Governing distinction

1. Character Truth

Writer-facing knowledge about:

• backstory and formative conditions;
• wants, needs, fears, wounds/Ghosts and protective strategies;
• beliefs/worldview;
• relationships and history;
• strengths, flaws/limitations and contradictions;
• intended emotional starting state and ending state;
• private information that may never be disclosed to the audience.

Character Truth is not automatically audience knowledge.

2. Character Arc State

At a canonical story address, record only what is useful to understand the character's current dramatic condition:

• current belief/strategy;
• active pressure;
• objective;
• meaningful choice;
• consequence;
• relationship movement;
• changed or reinforced understanding;
• evidence that supports the claimed state.

A character does not need to change in every Block. Absence and stasis are valid when truthful.

3. Screenplay Evidence

What the audience can actually observe in source material:

• action;
• dialogue;
• decision/refusal;
• relationship behaviour;
• reveal/withhold;
• consequence;
• scene/Block evidence.

A profile claim is not screenplay proof by itself.

Core product rule

Character Truth may explain Screenplay Action without becoming Screenplay Exposition.

PlotPickle may use profile/backstory evidence to test motivation, continuity and arc progression. It must not insert the backstory into screenplay text merely because the profile contains it.

Source set to preserve

Add the supplied source documents to an immutable/reference area with source metadata before extracting claims:

Preserve source wording and provenance. Extract claims into governed records rather than rewriting these files into current canon.

Character-specific source value

Amy

The profile supplies creator history, progression from logical/neutral AI toward emotional understanding, harmony/unification motivation, relationship influence and intended transcendence. Use it to test whether her movement from observer/narrator toward autonomous participant is sufficiently dramatized.

Joy

The profile supplies physical identity, isolation/depression framing, desire for connection/community, relationship with Rocket and intended movement toward belonging/transcendence.

A source claim links Joy's personality design to an internal staff member described as having bipolar disorder. Preserve that statement only as historical/source evidence until Human review decides whether and how it belongs in current canon, public-facing material or generation context. Do not infer behaviour from a diagnosis or turn a health label into a personality template.

Ren

The profile supplies full name, upbringing/technology history, company history, grief, motivations, relationships, geography and intended movement from isolation/control toward love, connection and a changed relationship with technology.

Several claims overlap current unresolved version questions. Reconcile them against v8/v9/v10/current evidence before promotion.

Summer / Isobel

The profile supplies upbringing, guardedness, nature/wildlife motivation, relationship needs, robotic companions and intended city -> journey -> nature/love transformation.

Preserve the Summer/Isobel identity question until screenplay/version evidence resolves it. A real-person appearance comparison in the historical profile is reference evidence only and must not silently become a visual-generation likeness instruction.

Kai / Jai ("The Twins")

The profile supplies individual names, ages, appearances, shared history, company role, distinct personalities, motivations, relationship with Ren/Amy and intended ethical/ideological pressure.

Treat political/ideological claims as versioned character-source claims and screenplay evidence, not as an assistant-authored characterization or automatic current canon.

24-Block arc mapping

For each principal character, support an evidence-backed path such as:

opening state -> pressure -> choices -> consequences -> midpoint state/shift -> crisis -> climax proof -> ending state

Use PlotPickle's existing Character Arc Matrix and checkpoints rather than creating a second arc store.

Each Block-level character view should be able to distinguish:

• not present / no relevant evidence;
• present but arc-neutral;
• pressure introduced;
• belief/strategy reinforced;
• belief/strategy challenged;
• meaningful choice;
• consequence;
• relationship movement;
• arc transition;
• unresolved/insufficient evidence.

These are descriptive evidence states, not creative-quality scores.

Structural-gap integration

Feed the character map into #2168 without making it a second definition of Block completeness.

Examples of useful findings:

• structural Block responsibility is covered, but Ren's next choice assumes an emotional transition not yet dramatized;
• Amy's intended transformation is compressed into too few observable steps;
• Summer's profile supports a decision, but the screenplay has not yet given the audience enough behavioural evidence for it to feel earned;
• Jai/Kai create external plot pressure, but their source-supported motivation disappears or contradicts a later action.

The system should report the evidence and the gap. It must not automatically repair the screenplay.

Curriculum integration

Reuse the completed #51 Characters in Motion concepts and current Character Arc Matrix:

• backstory matters when it affects present behaviour;
• character is proved through choice and consequence;
• midpoint/crisis/climax/ending are flexible checkpoints, not mandatory identical beats;
• inner and outer conflict should be connected;
• relationship change can be tracked as evidence;
• profile claims should be compared with screenplay proof.

#2167 should provide contextual links from the active Block/character checkpoint back to the relevant learning material.

Version/provenance rule

Character claims may come from:

• profile source;
• v8 screenplay;
• v9 screenplay;
• v10 partial rewrite;
• current PlotPickle working canon;
• Human-approved new writing.

Each claim/checkpoint must retain source/version/provenance and Human review state where it can affect canon.

Do not flatten disagreements across versions.

Non-goals

• no automatic screenplay exposition from profiles;
• no automatic promotion of historical profile claims to current canon;
• no requirement that every character appears or changes in every Block;
• no rigid Hero's Journey or fixed arc beat map;
• no mental-health diagnosis used as a deterministic personality model;
• no automatic visual likeness generation from a real-person comparison;
• no second Character/Arc authority.

Exit criteria

1. All five supplied profile files are preserved as immutable/reference source material with provenance.
2. Claim extraction keeps source version/status separate from current canon.
3. Character Truth, Arc State and Screenplay Evidence are represented as distinct concepts.
4. Principal characters can be traced across the 24-Block grid using existing PPF/Arc Matrix identities.
5. Backstory can inform motivation/diagnosis without becoming automatic screenplay exposition.
6. Opening, midpoint, crisis, climax and ending checkpoints can be compared with real source evidence while remaining flexible.
7. Afterglow Golden Story Fixture: map all 24 Blocks / 96 Mini-Blocks to source evidence #2168 can consume character-arc evidence when diagnosing structural/arc gaps.
8. Summer/Isobel, Claire/Sarah and other unresolved source conflicts remain visible until Human review resolves them.
9. Sensitive/likeness source details remain historical/reference-only unless explicitly approved for current use.
10. Focused tests prove provenance, no-auto-canon, no-auto-exposition and Block/arc address continuity.
