What changed

  • pass the recording target application into the input HUD presentation path
  • resolve the target application's focused window through macOS Accessibility
  • match that window against connected Core Graphics display bounds and keep the HUD on the display with the largest overlap
  • fall back to the system main screen when focused-window geometry is unavailable
  • add coverage for external-display coordinates, cross-display windows, and disconnected/off-screen geometry

Why

The HUD previously derived its placement from window.screen ?? NSScreen.main. A newly created panel has no screen yet, while a reused panel can retain its previous screen, so multi-display input could appear on the primary or stale display instead of the display containing the focused input window.

User impact

The existing HUD size, styling, and bottom margin are unchanged. When voice input starts, the HUD now appears at the bottom center of the display containing the focused target window.

Validation

  • swift test — 561 XCTest tests passed, 7 environment-dependent tests skipped; 2 Swift Testing tests passed
  • ./scripts/ci-basic-checks.sh
  • ./scripts/build-and-run.sh --verify
  • codesign --verify --deep --strict dist/Utter.app
  • git diff --check

Manual microphone-driven placement QA across both connected displays was not run.
