Summary

docker-publish-x402.yml has had a deterministic tag mismatch between the build and security-scan jobs since the workflow was written:

  • Build pushed with type=sha,prefix= → 7-char short SHA (e.g. 8cc2df0)
  • Security-scan references :\${{ github.sha }} → 40-char full SHA (e.g. 8cc2df05ec6878e47f2b1144c81971242f4420a8)

Every Trivy scan failed with MANIFEST_UNKNOWN because no pushed tag matched the scan reference.

Most recent failure: run 24663353934 on main @ 8cc2df05ec — all three component scans (x402-verifier, serviceoffer-controller, x402-buyer) failed identically:

FATAL Fatal error: image scan error: unable to initialize artifact:
unable to find the specified image
"ghcr.io/obolnetwork/x402-verifier:8cc2df05ec6878e47f2b1144c81971242f4420a8"
...
* remote error: GET https://ghcr.io/v2/obolnetwork/x402-verifier/manifests/8cc2df05ec...:
MANIFEST_UNKNOWN: manifest unknown

Fix

One-line YAML change: add format=long to the type=sha tag entry so the pushed tag is the 40-char hex that matches `${{ github.sha }}`:

 tags: |
type=semver,pattern={{version}}
type=semver,pattern={{major}}.{{minor}}
- type=sha,prefix=+ type=sha,format=long,prefix=
type=raw,value=latest,enable=...

prefix= stays empty so the tag is just <40-char-hex> (not sha-<hex>) — matching the scan's image-ref exactly.

Validation

  • Local yaml parses clean.
  • Metadata-action docs confirm: format=long emits the 40-char SHA, default prefix sha- overridden by explicit empty prefix=.
  • docker-publish-openclaw.yml isn't affected because its Trivy scan references :latest not :\${{ github.sha }}.

Test plan

  • Merge to main triggers a new run of Build and Publish x402 Images
  • security-scan jobs succeed (Trivy finds the image by full-SHA tag and uploads SARIF)
  • Tag ghcr.io/obolnetwork/x402-verifier:<40-char-sha> exists after merge

The build job tagged images with type=sha,prefix= which produces a
7-char short SHA (e.g. 8cc2df0). The security-scan job references
:${{ github.sha }} which is the 40-char full SHA. The scan always
failed with MANIFEST_UNKNOWN because no pushed tag matched.
Most recent failure: run 24663353934 on main @ 8cc2df0 —
Trivy: unable to find the specified image

MANIFEST_UNKNOWN: manifest unknown
Add format=long so the sha tag matches github.sha exactly. Keep
prefix= empty so the tag is just the 40-char hex (not sha-prefixed)
to match the scan's image-ref format.

Summary

docker-publish-x402.yml has had a deterministic tag mismatch between the build and security-scan jobs since the workflow was written:

Every Trivy scan failed with MANIFEST_UNKNOWN because no pushed tag matched the scan reference.

Fix

One-line YAML change: add format=long to the type=sha tag entry so the pushed tag is the 40-char hex that matches `${{ github.sha }}`:

 tags: |
type=semver,pattern={{version}}
type=semver,pattern={{major}}.{{minor}}
- type=sha,prefix=+ type=sha,format=long,prefix=
type=raw,value=latest,enable=...

prefix= stays empty so the tag is just <40-char-hex> (not sha-<hex>) — matching the scan's image-ref exactly.

Validation

  • Local yaml parses clean.
  • Metadata-action docs confirm: format=long emits the 40-char SHA, default prefix sha- overridden by explicit empty prefix=.
  • docker-publish-openclaw.yml isn't affected because its Trivy scan references :latest not :\${{ github.sha }}.

Test plan

  • Merge to main triggers a new run of Build and Publish x402 Images
  • security-scan jobs succeed (Trivy finds the image by full-SHA tag and uploads SARIF)
  • Tag ghcr.io/obolnetwork/x402-verifier:<40-char-sha> exists after merge

The build job tagged images with type=sha,prefix= which produces a
7-char short SHA (e.g. 8cc2df0). The security-scan job references
:${{ github.sha }} which is the 40-char full SHA. The scan always
failed with MANIFEST_UNKNOWN because no pushed tag matched.

Add format=long so the sha tag matches github.sha exactly. Keep
prefix= empty so the tag is just the 40-char hex (not sha-prefixed)

Summary

docker-publish-x402.yml has had a deterministic tag mismatch between the build and security-scan jobs since the workflow was written:

  • Build pushed with type=sha,prefix= → 7-char short SHA (e.g. 8cc2df0)
  • Security-scan references :\${{ github.sha }} → 40-char full SHA (e.g. 8cc2df05ec6878e47f2b1144c81971242f4420a8)

Every Trivy scan failed with MANIFEST_UNKNOWN because no pushed tag matched the scan reference.

Most recent failure: run 24663353934 on main @ 8cc2df05ec — all three component scans (x402-verifier, serviceoffer-controller, x402-buyer) failed identically:

FATAL Fatal error: image scan error: unable to initialize artifact:
unable to find the specified image
"ghcr.io/obolnetwork/x402-verifier:8cc2df05ec6878e47f2b1144c81971242f4420a8"
...
* remote error: GET https://ghcr.io/v2/obolnetwork/x402-verifier/manifests/8cc2df05ec...:
MANIFEST_UNKNOWN: manifest unknown

Fix

One-line YAML change: add format=long to the type=sha tag entry so the pushed tag is the 40-char hex that matches `${{ github.sha }}`:

 tags: |
type=semver,pattern={{version}}
type=semver,pattern={{major}}.{{minor}}
- type=sha,prefix=+ type=sha,format=long,prefix=
type=raw,value=latest,enable=...

prefix= stays empty so the tag is just <40-char-hex> (not sha-<hex>) — matching the scan's image-ref exactly.

'ghcr.io/obolnetwork/x402-verifier:8cc2df05ec6878e47f2b1144c81971242f4420a8'
MANIFEST_UNKNOWN: manifest unknown
Add format=long so the sha tag matches github.sha exactly. Keep
prefix= empty so the tag is just the 40-char hex (not sha-prefixed)
to match the scan's image-ref format.
