Contributor Licence Agreement: we need a signature from past contributors #555

Description

What this is

Posnic has added a Contributor Licence Agreement: .github/CLA.md. From now on a bot asks for a one-line signature on each pull request.

This issue is about the contributions that came before it, so the record is complete.

Why, in plain words

Until now we asked only for a DCO sign-off. The DCO certifies that the work is yours to submit under the project licence, AGPL-3.0-only. That is a certification bound to one licence, not a grant, so it gives Posnic no right to distribute a contribution on any other terms.

That matters because Posnic sells a branded, signed and supported build of this software to businesses, and that revenue is what pays for work on the open one. Without a sublicense right we cannot offer it at all.

What the CLA does and does not do

  • You keep the copyright in your work. It is a licence, not an assignment. You stay free to use, publish and relicense your own contribution anywhere else, forever.
  • It adds the right to sublicense, and nothing else.
  • Your contribution stays available to everyone under AGPL-3.0 regardless. Nothing in the agreement lets us withdraw that.

The text is adapted from the Apache Software Foundation's ICLA v2.0, which is the same agreement used by Apache projects.

What we are asking

If you are one of the contributors below, please read the agreement and, if you are happy with it, comment on this issue with exactly:

I have read the CLA document and I hereby sign the CLA

That covers your past contributions. Future pull requests are handled by the bot automatically.

If you would rather not sign, that is genuinely fine and there is no hard feeling in it. Tell us here and we will work out which commits are affected and what to do about them.
