Issue & Reproduction Steps

A DevLink update or reinstall fails when a bundled Dashboard references a Display Screen that was deleted from the source instance. The installation modal exposes a technical exception instead of an actionable message.

To reproduce:

  1. Create a Display Screen and assign it to a Dashboard.
  2. Add the Dashboard to a bundle through the ui_dashboards setting and publish it.
  3. Delete the Display Screen.
  4. Install or update the bundle from a linked instance.

Solution

  • Translate structured remote dependency validation responses into actionable DevLink errors.
  • Preserve known validation messages and the operation ID in installation events.
  • Sanitize unexpected remote and local failures so PHP classes, stack traces, and raw HTTP responses are not displayed.
  • Keep the complete exception and correlation details in the server logs.
  • Prevent creation of a partial installed bundle when remote validation fails.

How to Test

  • Repeat the reproduction steps and verify the modal identifies the Dashboard and asks for a valid Display Screen.
  • Verify no PHP class, stack trace, or raw HTTP response is displayed.
  • Verify unexpected failures show a safe generic message while server logs retain the technical details.
  • Verify no partial bundle is created on the target instance.
  • The focused core suites passed locally: 65 tests and 220 assertions.
