The removal of the common/VERSION file will break the scripts/set_version.sh script. The script currently depends on this file to display the current version (line 31) and to update it (line 62). Since VersionDef is now hardcoded in this file, the script needs to be updated to modify the Go source code directly, or the versioning automation needs to be redesigned.
