Run a site or community that lists tech events? We can pull them in automatically if your site exposes structured data (JSON-LD, Schema.org microdata, RSS + JSON-LD, or iCal). See brainberg.eu/about for supported formats and the fields we use, then open an issue to get added.

Getting Started

Prerequisites

• Node.js 20+
• Docker & Docker Compose (for the database)

1. Clone & install

git clone https://github.com/Pwuts/brainberg.git
cd brainberg
npm install

2. Start the database

docker compose -f docker/docker-compose.dev.yml up -d

This starts a PostGIS-enabled PostgreSQL on port 5432 with:

• Database: brainberg_dev
• User: brainberg
• Password: devpassword

3. Set up environment

cp .env.example .env
# Edit .env if needed (defaults work for local dev)

4. Push schema & seed data

npm run db:push
npm run db:seed

5. Start the dev server

npm run dev

Open http://localhost:3000 — you should see 12 sample events across Europe.

Docker Production Deployment

# Build and run with Docker Compose
docker compose -f docker/docker-compose.yml up -d

The app runs on 127.0.0.1:3000. Put a reverse proxy (nginx/caddy) in front for HTTPS.
