Empty trashcan as you restore elements, not like backpack

When you add elements in trashcan, as in OS, you can restore it. But in OS you can restore only the original artefact, whereas trashcan is similar to bagpack plugin. Whatever you put in trashcan, you can pick it out as many times as you want.

Describe the solution you'd like

If you put 5 blocks in trashcan, when you restore one it disappears inside trashcan which keeps last 4 blocks.

If you put 2 similar blocks in trashcan, they appaear as separate elements, and when you restore one element, it disappears in trashcan but not the 2nde one.

Hello, as far as I know, this still isn't possible :/ I attempted to implement this when I first built the trashcan, but I wasn't able to due to limitations with Blockly's events system.

The trashcan's flyout was implemented three years ago. At the time the majority opinion was that despite this UX being unlike any other trashcan in existence, this way was better since it more closely mirrored the behaviour of the toolbox flyouts. I doubt it can be changed now, since it's been so long. :(

Oooo using the new trashcan open/close event is really clever! That seems like it could work really well.

I was away from Blockly when the long sought after trashcan flyout was added (I'd originally imagined it would be a bubble). When I returned and raised the question regarding the strange behaviour, the explanation given was that it was prefered. Didn't know about the technical reason until now.

Reopening this issue. The technical problem that initially drove this decision is no longer present. Now it's a question of what people actually want.

After three years, the backpack-like behaviour still hasn't grown on me, and I remain in favour of changing it. But that's just one vote from me. Though now that it's been released, it's not just a developer issue, our users have votes too. Let's see what the current consensus is.

Thanks a lot Neil! In fact this issue comes from a 11 years old girl who well knows how to use computers, programs on Scratch. And as I was showing her my new software based on Blockly, she noticed this was strange, and we tested a lot of thing to conclude by this request.

Just thought I would add my two cents : )

I'm not sure the question here should be either/or, but instead should be "how can we make the trashcan more customizable to allow developers to do something like this?". Inevitably whatever we decide someone will want the other functionality. From the looks of the demo code above this could be solved by adding the Trashcan to the registry.
