Spring 2011

Plan

  • Release Preparation
    • We are still working on a beta release for our tool paper and there are some bugs that will need to be resolved before it is ready. Additionally, I have a web page for the tool that will probably need to be proofread and edited before it is ready.
  • Linking between views
    • The different views in the tool are each a representation of the same model. The interaction and visualization in the tool should affect each view appropriately, regardless of the view with which the user interacts.
  • Parameter Estimation
  • We now have the Matlab Builder JA module, so we need to install it, learn how to use it, and prepare the scripts that we already have. Then, we need to design and implement the interaction with the scripts and the results visualization for parameter estimation.

Evaluation

Overall this was a productive semester. We implemented new features, released the tool with a website, published a tool paper, submitted a conference paper, and have plans for future work. Most of the goals from my original plan were finished. At the initial planning meeting we agreed that I would need to spend much more time on linked views and that implementing them would probably take up the majority of the semester. Shortly after that we decided that it would be best if I worked through the summer, which allowed me to spend more time on linked views and other goals. As always, there was normal maintenance of two code branches that added extra time requirements.

    • The release version was finished and I deployed a website for the release. So far we’ve had more than 201 visitors in the last month from 17 countries, and 10 downloads in the last week.
  • Linking between views: Finished

    • The links between views have been implemented after 2 more iterations of the visualization viewer. They will be ready for the next release.
  • Parameter Estimation: Goal Changed

    • We did not implement parameter estimation, but we did decide that there was more work to be done in the area of hypothesis generation and testing before we implemented parameter estimation. John Sekar helped us define some of the advanced parameter scanning tasks that we will work on next semester before we work on parameter estimation.

Evaluation

Overall this was a productive semester. We implemented new features, released the tool with a website, published a tool paper, submitted a conference paper, and have plans for future work. Most of the goals from my original plan were finished. At the initial planning meeting we agreed that I would need to spend much more time on linked views and that implementing them would probably take up the majority of the semester. Shortly after that we decided that it would be best if I worked through the summer, which allowed me to spend more time on linked views and other goals. As always, there was normal maintenance of two code branches that added extra time requirements.

  • Release Preparation: Finished

    • The release version was finished and I deployed a website for the release. So far we’ve had more than 201 visitors in the last month from 17 countries, and 10 downloads in the last week.
  • Linking between views: Finished

    • The links between views have been implemented after 2 more iterations of the visualization viewer. They will be ready for the next release.
  • Parameter Estimation: Goal Changed

    • We did not implement parameter estimation, but we did decide that there was more work to be done in the area of hypothesis generation and testing before we implemented parameter estimation. John Sekar helped us define some of the advanced parameter scanning tasks that we will work on next semester before we work on parameter estimation.

Spring 2011

Plan

  • Release Preparation
    • We are still working on a beta release for our tool paper and there are some bugs that will need to be resolved before it is ready. Additionally, I have a web page for the tool that will probably need to be proofread and edited before it is ready.
  • Linking between views
    • The different views in the tool are each a representation of the same model. The interaction and visualization in the tool should affect each view appropriately, regardless of the view with which the user interacts.
  • Parameter Estimation
  • We now have the Matlab Builder JA module, so we need to install it, learn how to use it, and prepare the scripts that we already have. Then, we need to design and implement the interaction with the scripts and the results visualization for parameter estimation.
