EDIT: node-gyp supports Node 22/24 from v10 but drops Node 14. ⚠ Node 16 support is also dropped in v11. Maybe you could give a version range in npm peerDependencies to allow a range of Node from 14 to 24:

I actually fixed the installation by clearing the package-lock.json and node_modules directory.
I think that an old version of prebuild-install was installed instead of the latest 7.1.3 that updates the N-API package.

I had the same problem and tried a lot of things. I reinstalled Node completely on my Windows machine, updated Visual Studio 2022 with build tools, updated npm to latest version , removed node_modules and package_lock.json and cleaned the npm cache. To no avail.

In error log I always saw the node-gyp version v8.4.1 without realizing it is the culprit. Until I saw the @Freezystem comment EDIT. It is what helped me finally.

I ran npm install -g node-gyp and checked the installed version. The version v11.2.0 was printed on the screen.

After that the npm install was successfull.

Note: I don't know, why node-gyp remained freezed in the version v8.4.1 even when I was reinstalling Node 22.16.0 from standalone installation package.

We're hitting this issue on Node.js 22.16.0:

Definitely prefer the pre-built binaries as the sqlite3 library is npm installed into a range of environments here (Ubuntu, Windows, client computers, amd, arm); reluctant to get the required build tools installed in all these environments.

Any chance a fix for this being released in the near future so that Node.js 22.16.0 "just works" with sqlite3?
