Hi there, I'm Arpit! 👋

I'm a Moore Foundation Fellow (2024--) and Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Washington, specializing in the intersection of dark matter and galactic dynamics. Originally from New Delhi, India, I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania (2024) after receiving my B.S. from the University of Minnesota.

My work treats the Milky Way as a primary laboratory for understanding how dark matter shapes the evolution of galaxies. By combining zoomed hydrodynamical cosmological simulations with tailored dynamical tools made for the disequilibrium regime, I model the asymmetric distribution of dark matter. I am also interested in alternative dark matter models such as self-interacting and atomic dark matter. Currently, I am focused on understanding the evolution of stellar streams -- the tidal remnants of disrupted satellite galaxies -- in a fully time-evolving Milky Way and how they can help constrain the distribution and particle properties of dark matter.

GPU-accelerated N-body simulation toolkit for stellar stream modeling

A full-blown package for running N-body simulations of stellar streams in an external, time-evolving galactic potential. Features custom, highly optimized CUDA kernels for direct N-body and a GPU tree-code via CuPy and Numba, with support for both CPU and GPU architectures. Integrates with Agama and pyfalcON for flexible gravitational force evaluation.

Nbody_streams

Atlas of multipole expansion coefficients for Milky Way--LMC systems computed from FIRE-2 cosmological simulations using spherical and azimuthal harmonics.
