Summary

Switches the npm publish workflow to OIDC (Trusted Publisher) with provenance, matching the setup recently adopted in athombv/jsdoc-template.

  • Drop NPM_AUTH_TOKEN in favor of id-token: write + npm provenance
  • Bump actions/checkout and actions/setup-node to v4, Node to 24 (npm >= 11.5.1 required for OIDC publish)
  • Drop GPR token usage during build (not needed)
  • Add workflow_dispatch with npm publish --dry-run --provenance for verification
  • Keep beta publish from testing branch and Slack notify

Required setup on npmjs.org

Configure a Trusted Publisher on @athombv/data-types pointing at:

  • Repo: athombv/node-data-types
  • Workflow file: .github/workflows/publish-package-npm.yml
  • Leave the ref unrestricted so both production and testing publishes work.

Test plan

  • Merge to master
  • Configure Trusted Publisher on npmjs.org
  • Run workflow via workflow_dispatch to verify dry-run succeeds
  • Merge to production and confirm publish succeeds with provenance
  • Optionally remove the now-unused NPM_AUTH_TOKEN secret

Summary

Switches the npm publish workflow to OIDC (Trusted Publisher) with provenance, matching the setup recently adopted in athombv/jsdoc-template.

  • Drop NPM_AUTH_TOKEN in favor of id-token: write + npm provenance
  • Bump actions/checkout and actions/setup-node to v4, Node to 24 (npm >= 11.5.1 required for OIDC publish)
  • Drop GPR token usage during build (not needed)
  • Add workflow_dispatch with npm publish --dry-run --provenance for verification
  • Keep beta publish from testing branch and Slack notify

Required setup on npmjs.org

Configure a Trusted Publisher on @athombv/data-types pointing at:

  • Repo: athombv/node-data-types
  • Workflow file: .github/workflows/publish-package-npm.yml
  • Leave the ref unrestricted so both production and testing publishes work.

Test plan

  • Merge to master
  • Configure Trusted Publisher on npmjs.org
  • Run workflow via workflow_dispatch to verify dry-run succeeds
  • Merge to production and confirm publish succeeds with provenance
  • Optionally remove the now-unused NPM_AUTH_TOKEN secret

Pull request overview

Updates the npm publish GitHub Actions workflow to use npmjs Trusted Publishing via GitHub OIDC and generate provenance, removing reliance on long-lived npm auth tokens.

Changes:

  • Switch publishing authentication from NPM_AUTH_TOKEN to OIDC (id-token: write) and add --provenance to publish commands.
  • Upgrade actions/checkout / actions/setup-node to v4 and run the workflow on Node 24.
  • Add workflow_dispatch support to run an npm publish --dry-run --provenance verification path, while keeping production/testing publish behavior (including beta tag).

💡 Add Copilot custom instructions for smarter, more guided reviews. Learn how to get started.
