Commands to create multiple cursors, multiple selections

It’s great that Atom supports multiple cursors, but unless I’m mistaken, the only way to really get multiple cursors happening is to manually cmd + click where you want new cursors. A few of the things I miss about Sublime Text are:

• Being able to add an additional cursor to the line above/below the current one.

• Being able to select multiple lines, and then split the selection into multiple lines.

• Being able to quickly add next/all search results in a file as additional selections.

I’d ❤️ it if similar shortcuts could be added to Atom’s multiple caret/selection repertoire.

Just realised that the first of the shortcuts I mentioned above (add selection above/below) is actually already in Atom—my bad!

I can’t seem to find the other ones though, unless I’m missing something?

You're right that for the time being only add selection above / below are supported. We definitely need to add the rest.

I think these have all been addressed, Atom now supports cmd-d to select the current word, and cmd-shift-l to split the selection into lines

Closing this out, please let me know if I missed anything.

@kevinsawicki on 🐧 GNU/Linux, the key binding ctrl-shift-l seems to be missing and I can't find a command in the list to map it manually.
Running the split command via ctrl+shift+p works though.
Am I missing something?

@younishd Hey man also a GNU/Linux user and it's true the key mappings are missing for us and windows it seems but this should help you out man.

One of the use cases you missed was automatically adding a cursor at all find results.

That is, if I have a big nasty string like this:

And I want to split it into individual lines with one argument per line, then in sublime text I could do a search for - (space then dash - markdown seems to be stripping out the leading space), it would automatically add a cursor at the beginning of every - it found, and then I could simply hit enter to add a line break before every one. So far I haven't been able to find a way to do the same thing in atom.

@isochronous With the core package "find-and-replace" you can do "Find And Select: Select next"

This is the default keymap for me:

'.platform-win32 atom-text-editor, .platform-linux atom-text-editor':
 'ctrl-d': 'find-and-replace:select-next'

Just select the text you want the command to select again and press ctrl-d as many times you want to select them.

That's good to know, but there are many times I want to select literally
dozens, if not hundreds of instances of a symbol, and iterating through all
of them individually is less than ideal.
