Changes section sometimes renders double text overlay

Description

Sometimes, not often, the changes section seems to show two layers of text

Steps to Reproduce

1. Changed three tracked files, staged 2
2. Open diff preview of the remaining unstaged file.

Expected behavior:

Normal changes view of current file content

Actual behavior:

Shows second layer of text content from different revision right over the text.

Reproduces how often:

Sometimes
~ 15%

do you see this issue where changes don't involve back ticks. I think I see a couple there, and I wonder if its a special character rendering issue because of how template strings may be treated.
