Description

In the Strands template, create the Agent outside of the request handler, enabling the agent to be "sessionful," that is, keep its state in between calls to the same session.

This PR is already merged, but reviewing it for completeness:

The factory pattern resolves the conflict between session-stateful agents and per-session memory cleanly, and the prior review thread (Tejas/Alex) already covered the main design question.

One minor follow-up worth keeping in mind (not a blocker, doesn't need a fix here):

  • The cache dict in agent_factory() is unbounded. In a long-lived runtime container, distinct (session_id, user_id) pairs will accumulate Agent instances indefinitely, which could leak memory over time. For a getting-started template this is probably acceptable (customers will tailor it), but a comment in the template hinting "consider an LRU/TTL cache for production" — or using functools.lru_cache with maxsize — could save folks a footgun later.

Otherwise, looks good.

Description
In the Strands template, create the Agent outside of the request handler, enabling the agent to be "sessionful," that is, keep its state in between calls to the same session.

This PR is already merged, but reviewing it for completeness:
The factory pattern resolves the conflict between session-stateful agents and per-session memory cleanly, and the prior review thread (Tejas/Alex) already covered the main design question.
One minor follow-up worth keeping in mind (not a blocker, doesn't need a fix here):
  • The cache dict in agent_factory() is unbounded. In a long-lived runtime container, distinct (session_id, user_id) pairs will accumulate Agent instances indefinitely, which could leak memory over time. For a getting-started template this is probably acceptable (customers will tailor it), but a comment in the template hinting "consider an LRU/TTL cache for production" — or using functools.lru_cache with maxsize — could save folks a footgun later.
Otherwise, looks good.
