Summary

Prepare for initial public release of agentcore CLI.

  • Rename package from @aws/agentcore-cli to agentcore
  • Set version to 0.3.0-preview1.0
  • Update CDK dependency from @aws/agentcore-l3-cdk-constructs to agentcore-cdk@^0.1.0-alpha1.0
  • Remove npm link workflow (no longer needed for public packages)
  • Delete obsolete LOCAL_DEV_SETUP.md

Test plan

  • Unit tests pass
  • Created test project with AGENTCORE_SKIP_INSTALL=1
  • Verified vended CDK imports resolve correctly
  • CDK build and synth work with local tarball install

Reviewing this retrospectively (already merged).

Two serious issues with this PR — both already addressed in #297 the following day:

  1. Package name agentcore was unscoped and not registered on npm.README.md and package.json were updated to use the bare name agentcore, but https://registry.npmjs.org/agentcore returns 404 — npm install -g agentcore would fail. Fixed in correct package name #297 by reverting to @aws/agentcore.

  2. agentcore-cdk@^0.1.0-alpha1.0 does not exist on npm. The pinned version in src/assets/cdk/package.json (and the snapshot) doesn't resolve to any published version — at the time of merge only 0.0.1 and 1.0.1 of agentcore-cdk existed, and the alpha range syntax is also malformed (alpha1.0 rather than the standard alpha.1). Any user running agentcore create followed by a real npm install (i.e. without AGENTCORE_SKIP_INSTALL=1) would have hit a resolution failure. Fixed in correct package name #297 by switching to @aws/agentcore-cdk@^0.1.0-alpha.1.

Note for future release-prep PRs: the test plan here used AGENTCORE_SKIP_INSTALL=1 for project creation, which skips exactly the step that would have caught issue #2. Worth doing at least one full end-to-end agentcore create without the skip flag (or running npm install manually in the vended project) before merging release-prep PRs that change vended dependency names/versions.

Reviewing this retrospectively (already merged).
Two serious issues with this PR — both already addressed in #297 the following day:

  2. agentcore-cdk@^0.1.0-alpha1.0 does not exist on npm. Summary
Prepare for initial public release of agentcore CLI.
  • Rename package from @aws/agentcore-cli to agentcore
  • Set version to 0.3.0-preview1.0
  • Update CDK dependency from @aws/agentcore-l3-cdk-constructs to agentcore-cdk@^0.1.0-alpha1.0
  • Remove npm link workflow (no longer needed for public packages)
  • Delete obsolete LOCAL_DEV_SETUP.md

  •  Unit tests pass
  •  Created test project with AGENTCORE_SKIP_INSTALL=1
  •  Verified vended CDK imports resolve correctly

Reviewing this retrospectively (already merged).
Two serious issues with this PR — both already addressed in #297 the following day:
  1. Package name agentcore was unscoped and not registered on npm.README.md and package.json were updated to use the bare name agentcore, but https://registry.npmjs.org/agentcore returns 404 — npm install -g agentcore would fail. Fixed in correct package name #297 by reverting to @aws/agentcore.
  2. agentcore-cdk@^0.1.0-alpha1.0 does not exist on npm. The pinned version in src/assets/cdk/package.json (and the snapshot) doesn't resolve to any published version — at the time of merge only 0.0.1 and 1.0.1 of agentcore-cdk existed, and the alpha range syntax is also malformed (alpha1.0 rather than the standard alpha.1). Any user running agentcore create followed by a real npm install (i.e. without AGENTCORE_SKIP_INSTALL=1) would have hit a resolution failure. Fixed in correct package name #297 by switching to @aws/agentcore-cdk@^0.1.0-alpha.1.
Note for future release-prep PRs: the test plan here used AGENTCORE_SKIP_INSTALL=1 for project creation, which skips exactly the step that would have caught issue #2. Worth doing at least one full end-to-end agentcore create without the skip flag (or running npm install manually in the vended project) before merging release-prep PRs that change vended dependency names/versions.
