Show tooltip at each pixel using interpolation

Hi,

it would be nice, if it is possible to see a tooltip (with values) not only at the datapoints.
Maybe the interpolation could be used for this.

Scenario:

• line chart
• time series (dates at x-axis)
• two datasets (lines) with distinct timestamps

Now I want to see the values (maybe only interpolated, because no exact datapoint at the timestamp) for a specific point in time (x-axis position of mouse).

Any comments or maybe a workaround for getting this outcome?

This would be an interesting feature. I think with #3400 merged it should be possible to define a new tooltip mode that would provide this. It would have to return some 'fake' elements if none exist, but I think it'd work.

Would make a good plugin / extension library IMO

Good to know this merge, but can we use the internal interpolation in this scenario?

I also think it would be very useful, to combine this enhancement with the idea to have a moving, vertical line under the mouse (#3164).

We don't have any internal interpolation code written. It's straightforward to write for a line chart where tension === 0 but if the line is a bezier curve this is significantly more complicated.
