Steps to reproduce:

1. Follow the official Clerk Expo offline support guide.
2. Set up with tokenCache and __experimental_resourceCache props:
   Note: Neither @clerk/clerk-expo/resource-cache (after before 2.9.0) nor @clerk/clerk-expo/secure-store (before 2.9.0) works:

3. Attempt to sign in using:

Expected behavior:

App should support offline mode without throwing runtime errors when using __experimental_resourceCache.

Actual behavior:

App throws an error:

[TypeError: Cannot read property '__internal_toSnapshot' of undefined]

This happens as soon as signIn.create(...) is called, only when __experimental_resourceCache is present. When that prop is removed, everything works correctly.

Offline support is super important for our app since many users work in poor connectivity areas. Not sure if this is something wrong in my setup, the SDK, or how I'm using it. Any help or workaround would be awesome!

Hi, we have the same issue at login with __experimental_resourceCache. Everything works fine if we remove it.

We also have this error when loading the App if an user was previously logged in it fails with this error:

So after investigating and switching between different iOS versions, we couldn't replicate the issue using our clerk-expo-quickstart in the ff. iOS versions:

1. iOS 17.5
2. iOS 18.5 (installed using the Xcode 16.4 RC)

But we encountered a white screen issue in iOS 18.4 due to pending requests (related to #5891). The fix is to install Xcode 16.4 RC which includes iOS Simulator 18.5 as stated here. Would you mind to give this working simulators a try and see if somehow the __internal_toSnapshot error is fixed?

We tested all of this in Sequioa 15.5.

@wobsoriano Thank you for investigating. I’ve upgraded to Sequoia 15.5 and tested on iOS 17.5, but the issue still persists in our clerk-expo-quickstart. The white-screen bug only appears on iOS 18.x — everything works on 17.x, so they don’t seem related. Since we need to support older OS versions, moving to iOS 18.5 isn’t an option. Do you have any other ideas on what might be causing this or how we might resolve it?

Also, is there an alternative way to implement Clerk’s offline-mode support?

@tmilewski Thanks for the quick help! I tested the fixes on iOS 17.5 and can confirm the app now runs without crashing.

We’ll wait for the official release, and in the meantime the local patch should be fine.

Hi @tmilewski I've tested this version and everything is working fine on iOS & Android 🎉 (on iOS I've updated to Xcode 16.4, not sure if it was needed).
