Summary

  • Moves react and react-dom from dependencies to peerDependencies in @clerk/ui
  • Aligns with the pattern used by @clerk/react, @clerk/nextjs, and @clerk/shared

Context

@clerk/ui has three rspack build variants:

  • ui.browser / ui.legacy.browser — bundle React into the output
  • ui.shared.browser — externalizes React, expects host app to provide it via globalThis.__clerkSharedModules

For ESM consumers (e.g., @clerk/react), React is already a peer dependency in their own package.json. Having react as a regular dependency in @clerk/ui is misleading because no consumer actually needs it installed transitively — browser bundle users get it bundled, shared variant users provide their own, and React app users already have it.

Context
@clerk/ui has three rspack build variants:
  • ui.browser / ui.legacy.browser — bundle React into the output
  • ui.shared.browser — externalizes React, expects host app to provide it via globalThis.__clerkSharedModules
For ESM consumers (e.g., @clerk/react), React is already a peer dependency in their own package.json. Having react as a regular dependency in @clerk/ui is misleading because no consumer actually needs it installed transitively — browser bundle users get it bundled, shared variant users provide their own, and React app users already have it.
