Description

Surfaces the swingset sidebar's group metadata (Components, Primitives) as section labels above their respective component entries, instead of rendering every component in one flat list. Each section header is a small uppercase muted label, with the component collapsibles grouped beneath it and spacing tightened so entries read as connected to their label. This is a UI-only change to the private @clerk/swingset explorer; run pnpm run dev:swingset to view.

The PR refactors the sidebar component to organize component stories into hierarchical groups. Each group now gets a dedicated section container with a header label, and stories within that group render as collapsible sections. Link routing and active-state logic remain unchanged.

Changes

Sidebar grouping structure

Layer / File(s)Summary
Sidebar structure refactored to group by section
.changeset/two-level-sidebar-sorting.md, packages/swingset/src/components/app-sidebar.tsx
Sidebar rendering changed from flattened story iteration to two-level grouping: each group wraps a data-section header, then renders that group's stories as collapsible Collapsible components. Link targets (/components/${componentSlug} and /components/${componentSlug}/${toSlug(name)}) and active-state checks are preserved. SidebarGroup/SidebarGroupContent structure updated for group-scoped layout and spacing.

⚠️ Potential issue | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Use semantic heading element for section labels.

The section group headers are rendered as styled divs without semantic meaning. Screen readers won't recognize these as section headings, degrading navigation for keyboard and assistive technology users.

♿ Proposed fix using semantic heading
- <div className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>+ <h2 className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>

Alternatively, if heading levels are a concern, use ARIA:

- <div className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>+ <div role='heading' aria-level='2' className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>

⚠️ Potential issue | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Use semantic heading element for section labels.

The section group headers are rendered as styled divs without semantic meaning. Screen readers won't recognize these as section headings, degrading navigation for keyboard and assistive technology users.

♿ Proposed fix using semantic heading
- <div className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>+ <h2 className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>
{group}
- </div>+ </h2>

Alternatively, if heading levels are a concern, use ARIA:

- <div className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>+ <div role='heading' aria-level='2' className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>

Use semantic heading element for section labels.

The section group headers are rendered as styled divs without semantic meaning. Screen readers won't recognize these as section headings, degrading navigation for keyboard and assistive technology users.

♿ Proposed fix using semantic heading
- <div className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>+ <h2 className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>

Alternatively, if heading levels are a concern, use ARIA:

- <div className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>+ <div role='heading' aria-level='2' className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>

Review Change Stack

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

🐰 A sidebar finds its structure neat,
Groups now nested, complete and sweet,
Stories tucked in sections tidy,
Navigation's never been so guidey!
Two levels of order, what a sight! 🌟

⚠️ Potential issue | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Use semantic heading element for section labels.

The section group headers are rendered as styled divs without semantic meaning. Screen readers won't recognize these as section headings, degrading navigation for keyboard and assistive technology users.

♿ Proposed fix using semantic heading
- <div className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>+ <h2 className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>
{group}
- </div>+ </h2>

Alternatively, if heading levels are a concern, use ARIA:

- <div className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>+ <div role='heading' aria-level='2' className='text-sidebar-foreground/50 px-4 pb-0 pt-4 text-[10px] font-semibold uppercase tracking-wider'>
{group}
</div>
