I've hit into something odd: in browser, debug package still tries to go Node route. https://github.com/defunctzombie/node-process/blob/master/browser.js#L156 I think this is the reason, and debug seems not to check for that. I don't really have a good explanation what to do next, yet I guess it's better to make a record
