HTML to PDF Converter

A simple Python application that converts HTML files in a directory to PDF format using WeasyPrint. Available in both GUI and command-line versions.

Installation

For Local Installation

  1. Make sure you have Python 3.11 or higher installed
  2. Install the required dependencies:
pip install -r requirements.txt

Windows Users: WeasyPrint requires GTK3 runtime. If you encounter errors, install it from: https://github.com/tschoonj/GTK-for-Windows-Runtime-Environment-Installer/releases

Usage

GUI Version (Recommended)

Launch the graphical interface:

python html2pdf_gui.py

The GUI provides:

  • Browse buttons to select input and output directories
  • Real-time status updates showing conversion progress
  • Color-coded messages (green for success, red for errors)
  • Summary statistics when conversion completes

Simply click "Browse" to select your HTML folder, choose an output location, and click "Convert to PDF"!

Command-Line Version

For automation or scripting, use the CLI version:

# Basic usage - creates PDFs in 'output' folder
python html2pdf.py <input_directory># Specify output directory
python html2pdf.py <input_directory> -o <output_directory># Examples
python html2pdf.py sample_html
python html2pdf.py sample_html -o my_pdfs
# Get help
python html2pdf.py --help

Sample Files

This project includes sample HTML files in the sample_html directory:

  • welcome.html - Introduction page with styling
  • invoice.html - Sample invoice with table
  • report.html - Monthly report with metrics

Try converting them:

python html2pdf.py sample_html

The PDFs will be saved in the output directory.

How It Works

Command-Line Version

For automation or scripting, use the CLI version:

Sample Files

This project includes sample HTML files in the sample_html directory:

  • welcome.html - Introduction page with styling
  • invoice.html - Sample invoice with table
  • report.html - Monthly report with metrics

Try converting them:

python html2pdf.py sample_html

The PDFs will be saved in the output directory.

How It Works

Both GUI and CLI versions:

  1. Scan the input directory for .html and .htm files
  2. Convert each file to PDF using WeasyPrint
  3. Save PDFs with matching filenames in the output directory
  4. Display progress and summary statistics

GUI-specific features:

  • Threading for responsive interface during conversion

  • Directory picker dialogs for easy navigation

Error Handling

  • Invalid HTML files are skipped with error messages
  • Missing input directory is reported

HTML to PDF Converter

A simple Python application that converts HTML files in a directory to PDF format using WeasyPrint. Available in both GUI and command-line versions.

Installation

For Local Installation

  1. Make sure you have Python 3.11 or higher installed
  2. Install the required dependencies:
pip install -r requirements.txt

Windows Users: WeasyPrint requires GTK3 runtime. If you encounter errors, install it from: https://github.com/tschoonj/GTK-for-Windows-Runtime-Environment-Installer/releases

Usage

GUI Version (Recommended)

Launch the graphical interface:

python html2pdf_gui.py

The GUI provides:

  • Browse buttons to select input and output directories
  • Real-time status updates showing conversion progress
  • Color-coded messages (green for success, red for errors)
  • Summary statistics when conversion completes

Simply click "Browse" to select your HTML folder, choose an output location, and click "Convert to PDF"!
