Summary

Set up the Cursor Cloud development environment for Zog and documented the hard platform constraint discovered during setup.

Zog is a native macOS app (Swift/SwiftUI + AppKit, plus Apple-only CoreWLAN/IOKit/SystemConfiguration/ApplicationServices) with zero third-party dependencies. It is built and run exclusively with Xcode / xcodebuild on macOS 14+, and CI runs on macos-14.

Cursor Cloud Agent VMs are Linux x86_64 with no swift/xcodebuild toolchain and no macOS frameworks, so the app cannot be built, run, tested, or lint-checked on the Cloud VM. This is a fundamental platform mismatch, not a missing-dependency issue.

Changes

  • Add AGENTS.md with a ## Cursor Cloud specific instructions section describing:
    • the macOS-only constraint (and why installing a Swift toolchain does not help),
    • what can be done on the Linux VM (edit sources, preview docs/design-preview.html),
    • what requires macOS (build/run/lint via Xcode — commands point to README.md),
    • that no install/update script is needed (no package manifests, no dependencies).

Environment setup outcome

  • Update script: intentionally a no-op (nothing to install on Linux).
  • Dependencies installed: none required.
  • Lint / Test / Build / Run: not possible on the Linux Cloud VM (no Xcode/Swift + macOS-only frameworks); there are also no unit/UI test targets. These must be exercised on macOS or via the macos-14 CI in .github/workflows/build.yml.

Demonstration

The only cross-platform artifact is the self-contained design mock docs/design-preview.html, rendered in a browser on the Linux VM (this is a design reference, not the compiled app):

Zog design preview rendered in browser

To show artifacts inline, enable in settings.

Note

Add AGENTS.md with macOS-only build constraints for Cursor Cloud dev environments

Adds AGENTS.md to document platform constraints for contributors using Cursor Cloud Linux VMs. Clarifies that the app is a native macOS (Swift/SwiftUI + AppKit) project that cannot be built on Linux, explains how to preview the static HTML design on Linux, and notes that no setup script is needed.
