Summary

Fixes#747

When using @sentry/esbuild-plugin with an entry point that has no default export (common for Express.js apps), the plugin's debug ID proxy module generates:

exportdefaultOriginalModule.default;

This causes esbuild (0.25+) to emit:

▲ [WARNING] Import "default" will always be undefined because there is no matching export in "index.ts" [import-is-undefined]

The fix wraps the default export access in a function call, which prevents esbuild's static analysis from detecting the potentially missing .default property while still correctly forwarding it when present:

var_sentry_default_export=(function(m){returnm.default;})(_sentry_original_module);export{_sentry_default_exportasdefault};

Test plan

  • Added unit tests covering: no default export (no warning), with default export (preserved), named-only exports (preserved)
  • All existing unit tests pass (vitest run in packages/esbuild-plugin)
  • All 86 integration tests pass (yarn test in packages/integration-tests)
  • Lint passes clean (eslint ./src ./test)
  • Manually verified fix eliminates the warning with esbuild 0.25.5 (version from issue report)

Pull request overview

This PR fixes an esbuild (0.25+) warning emitted by the esbuild debug-ID proxy module when the wrapped entry point has no default export (common for Express-style “no exports” entrypoints).

Changes:

  • Update the generated proxy module to access the default export via a function wrapper to avoid triggering esbuild’s import-is-undefined static analysis warning.
  • Add unit tests covering entry points with no default export, with a default export, and with named-only exports.

afterAll unconditionally calls fs.rmSync(tmpDir, ...) but tmpDir is only set in beforeAll. If beforeAll fails (or a test is skipped before initialization), the cleanup can throw and mask the original failure. Consider guarding the cleanup (e.g., only remove when tmpDir is set/existing).

Summary

Fixes#747

When using @sentry/esbuild-plugin with an entry point that has no default export (common for Express.js apps), the plugin's debug ID proxy module generates:

exportdefaultOriginalModule.default;

This causes esbuild (0.25+) to emit:

▲ [WARNING] Import "default" will always be undefined because there is no matching export in "index.ts" [import-is-undefined]

The fix wraps the default export access in a function call, which prevents esbuild's static analysis from detecting the potentially missing .default property while still correctly forwarding it when present:

var_sentry_default_export=(function(m){returnm.default;})(_sentry_original_module);export{_sentry_default_exportasdefault};
