Rutvik Bhatt — Senior Engineering Manager, Delivery Hero

About

I manage managers, not just engineers — around 30 people across three full-stack squads in Delivery Hero's Vendor Discovery domain. Part of that is a revenue-critical squad I run direct, no EM layer between me and its ICs, which mostly means I don't get to hide behind a delegation buffer when something breaks.

15+ years in engineering, most of it hands-on before I moved into management, which is why I still sit in architecture reviews and push back on RFCs instead of just rubber-stamping them. GraphQL Federation, mobile SDKs, event-driven systems — that's the stack I came up on, and it's still what I reach for when I need to tell a good technical decision from a convenient one.

A few outcomes I'd stand behind in an interview:

  • Scaled the domain 20 → 30 engineers, cut onboarding ramp time 40% by restructuring around C4 reviews and ADR/RFC governance
  • 100% retention while growing 7 engineers into EM/Staff roles
  • Cut MTTR 4h → 1h and incidents 42% YoY across 300+ services, with on-call and multi-AZ DR I own directly
  • Led Delivery Hero's first org-wide GraphQL Federation rollout, co-authored the supergraph architecture, presented at GraphQL NYC Summit
  • Rebuilt vendor discovery ranking/personalization across 19 markets — €52M incremental annual revenue, 32.1% revenue growth

Currently

  • 🔭 Running the Vendor Discovery domain at Delivery Hero, Berlin
  • ✍️ Writing case-study-driven engineering leadership pieces at rutvikbhatt.com — no marketing fluff, just the mechanics of what worked and what didn't
  • 📱 Building Unarchive.today solo, nights and weekends
  • 🧠 Thinking a lot about what engineering management optimizes for once agentic coding removes the tedious execution layer beneath the work

Projects

Projects

Unarchive.today — a privacy-first, offline-first read-it-later app for archive.today and archive.ph links. Share an archived link from anywhere and it opens natively instead of making you copy-paste into a browser tab, and it can summarize the page with an on-device local LLM (Gemma-2B / Llama-3.2 via MediaPipe and CoreML) — nothing leaves the device, no accounts, no server-side reading history. Built and shipped solo to iOS and Android.

Initiatives I've directed at Delivery Hero — not solo builds, but ones I sponsored and shaped:

What it doesImpact
Agentic architecture-drift auditor checking every deploy against reliability standardsReview no longer bottlenecks on senior ICs across 300+ services
LLM agent that watches UI flows and writes regression tests automaticallyTest authoring: 1.5 days → 5 minutes
One-click mobile regression platformManual regression: 132 hrs/week → under 20
Grew out of a bottom-up R&D program I run for the team60% faster A/B cycles, ~€500K capacity unlocked
