Intel(R) XPU Manager and XPU System Management Interface

Intel(R) XPU Manager is a free and open-source tool for monitoring and managing Intel Data Center GPUs. It is designed to simplify administration, and to help in improving device utilization and maximizing their reliability and uptime. Intel(R) XPU System Management Interface (XPU-SMI) is a command line interface (CLI) to manage GPUs locally.

How to get XPU Manager

Install XPUM

The following instructions apply to Ubuntu (using APT).

Because a Linux distribution may not ship all the driver packages required by XPUM, or may ship versions older than required, first configure your APT repositories to add the kobuk-team/intel-graphics PPA, as explained in the "Installing packages from the Intel PPA" section of the Intel GPU driver documentation. This PPA provides both the Intel GPU driver packages and xpu-smi.

Option 1: Install from Intel package repository

Install xpu-smi and its (driver) dependencies:

sudo apt install xpu-smi

Note: The version published in the Kobuk PPA may lag the GitHub releases by a few weeks, so this method may not install the most recent build. If you need a release immediately after it is published, use Option 2 below.

Option 2: Install from releases page

Download XPUM packages (relevant for the host distro) from the releases page.

Install them:

sudo apt install ./xpu-smi_*.deb

Installing from the local .deb path with apt resolves the driver dependencies automatically. If needed, they can also be installed explicitly:

sudo apt install libhwloc15 libpciaccess0 libigsc1 libze1 libze-intel-gpu1

Troubleshooting

Installation may fail if the driver packages are too old for this version of XPUM. A newer version may be available from the Kobuk staging repository.

If that does not help, run the following to fix broken dependencies:

sudo apt --fix-broken install

Latest installers / binaries can be downloaded from the XPUM release page.

GPU info exporter (xpumd)

XPUM Daemon is available as a container image, please see xpumd README.

    • Windows Server 2022 and 2025 (limited features only: GPU device info, GPU telemetry, GPU firmware update and GPU configuration)

Runtime Dependencies

For Ubuntu 22.04 and later, required Intel drivers can be installed from the Intel package repositories

Release cadence

XPU Manager uses semantic versioning in the form MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH.

  • Minor versions are released periodically as new features and platform support are stabilized.
  • Patch versions are released as needed for critical fixes and security updates.

How to get XPU Manager

Install XPUM

The following instructions apply to Ubuntu (using APT).

Because a Linux distribution may not ship all the driver packages required by XPUM, or may ship versions older than required, first configure your APT repositories to add the kobuk-team/intel-graphics PPA, as explained in the "Installing packages from the Intel PPA" section of the Intel GPU driver documentation. This PPA provides both the Intel GPU driver packages and xpu-smi.

Option 1: Install from Intel package repository

Install xpu-smi and its (driver) dependencies:

sudo apt install xpu-smi

Note: The version published in the Kobuk PPA may lag the GitHub releases by a few weeks, so this method may not install the most recent build. If you need a release immediately after it is published, use Option 2 below.

Option 2: Install from releases page

Download XPUM packages (relevant for the host distro) from the releases page.

Install them:

sudo apt install ./xpu-smi_*.deb

Installing from the local .deb path with apt resolves the driver dependencies automatically. If needed, they can also be installed explicitly:

sudo apt install libhwloc15 libpciaccess0 libigsc1 libze1 libze-intel-gpu1

Troubleshooting

Installation may fail if the driver packages are too old for this version of XPUM. A newer version may be available from the Kobuk staging repository.

If that does not help, run the following to fix broken dependencies:

sudo apt --fix-broken install

Windows CLI tools

Latest installers / binaries can be downloaded from the XPUM release page.

GPU info exporter (xpumd)

Intel(R) XPU Manager and XPU System Management Interface

Intel(R) XPU Manager is a free and open-source tool for monitoring and managing Intel Data Center GPUs. It is designed to simplify administration, and to help in improving device utilization and maximizing their reliability and uptime. Intel(R) XPU System Management Interface (XPU-SMI) is a command line interface (CLI) to manage GPUs locally.

How to get XPU Manager

Install XPUM

The following instructions apply to Ubuntu (using APT).

Because a Linux distribution may not ship all the driver packages required by XPUM, or may ship versions older than required, first configure your APT repositories to add the kobuk-team/intel-graphics PPA, as explained in the "Installing packages from the Intel PPA" section of the Intel GPU driver documentation. This PPA provides both the Intel GPU driver packages and xpu-smi.

Option 1: Install from Intel package repository

Install xpu-smi and its (driver) dependencies:

sudo apt install xpu-smi

Note: The version published in the Kobuk PPA may lag the GitHub releases by a few weeks, so this method may not install the most recent build. If you need a release immediately after it is published, use Option 2 below.

Option 2: Install from releases page

Download XPUM packages (relevant for the host distro) from the releases page.

Install them:

sudo apt install ./xpu-smi_*.deb

Installing from the local .deb path with apt resolves the driver dependencies automatically. If needed, they can also be installed explicitly:

sudo apt install libhwloc15 libpciaccess0 libigsc1 libze1 libze-intel-gpu1

Troubleshooting

Installation may fail if the driver packages are too old for this version of XPUM. A newer version may be available from the Kobuk staging repository.

If that does not help, run the following to fix broken dependencies:

sudo apt --fix-broken install

Latest installers / binaries can be downloaded from the XPUM release page.

GPU info exporter (xpumd)

XPUM Daemon is available as a container image, please see xpumd README.

Intel(R) XPU Manager and XPU System Management Interface

Intel(R) XPU Manager is a free and open-source tool for monitoring and managing Intel Data Center GPUs. It is designed to simplify administration, and to help in improving device utilization and maximizing their reliability and uptime. Intel(R) XPU System Management Interface (XPU-SMI) is a command line interface (CLI) to manage GPUs locally.

  • Administration:
    • GPU discovery and information - name, model, serial, stepping, location, frequency, memory capacity, firmware version
    • GPU topology
    • GPU Firmware updating, including GPU GFX firmware and AMC (Add-in card Management Controller) firmware updating.
  • Monitoring:
    • GPU telemetry – utilization, power, frequency, temperature, fabric speed, memory throughput, errors
    • GPU health – memory, power, temperature, fabric port
    • GPU metric exporter daemon
  • Configuration:
    • GPU Settings - GPU power limits, frequency range, standby mode, scheduler mode, ECC On/Off, fabric port status
