Temporary Fix

This is caused by a binary naming mismatch — the release assets are named tokenzip-* but the install scripts look for contextzip-*. See #7 for details.

Until the installer is fixed, you can manually download the correct binary:

macOS ARM64 (Apple Silicon)

The binary runs as tokenzip (not contextzip). If you want the contextzip alias:

✅ Full Working Setup (macOS ARM64)

Following up on the temp fix above — here are the complete steps including initialization:

1. Download the binary (correct name is tokenzip, not contextzip)

2. Add to PATH

3. Install the global Claude Code hook

tokenzip init -g

Output on success:

TokenZip hook installed/updated (global).

  Hook:      ~/.claude/hooks/tokenzip-rewrite.sh
  TOKENZIP.md:    ~/.claude/TOKENZIP.md (10 lines)
  CLAUDE.md: @TOKENZIP.md reference added

  settings.json: hook added
  Backup: ~/.claude/settings.json.bak
  Restart Claude Code. Test with: git status

This installs a rewrite hook in ~/.claude/settings.json so every command is auto-compressed globally across all projects.

4. Optional: alias for contextzip name

ln -s ~/.local/bin/tokenzip ~/.local/bin/contextzip

5. Restart Claude Code and test

tokenzip gain 

You should see a savings summary like 💾 tokenzip: 1.2K → 156 tokens (saved 87%) in stderr.
