This is the base package for the KOW Framework.
This document is highly outdated.

= 2. Dependencies =
===================
Install MSYS and MinGW (http://www.mingw.org). Then, make sure you have a recent version of GNAT (https://libre.adacore.com/dynamic/download_page)
installed on c:/GNAT. Then, add c:/GNAT /gnat
to your fstab on msys/etc and its (GNAT) bin path tho the $PATH environment variable like this:
$ export PATH=gnat/2008/bin:$PATH
This will get make to call the gcc version that comes with GPS, instead of using the older version that comes with MingW.
This one is required for us to be able to compile the source code written in Ada 2005.
Moreover, you will need all the paths containing the project files (.gpr) in the
environment variable ADA_PROJECT_PATH. To set this, still inside adaworks_trunk, run $ source export_path.sh
To build AWConfig library you will need xmlada installed. Download xmlada (https://libre.adacore.com/dynamic/download_page),
unzip the file at c:/xmlada-build and create c:/xmlada. Include these lines in the file /etc/fstab of your MingW: c:/xmlada-build /xmlada-build
c:/xmlada /xmlada
c:/adaworks /adaworks
Then, do:
cd /xmlada-build
./configure --prefix=/xmlada
make
make install
to get xmlada built and installed.

= 3. Code structure =
=====================
Adaworks is composed by these libraries (they are ready to use in Linux - even though they shouldn't be considered stable yet - and should run fine in Windows (cygwin)):
* AWLib
o for now we have:
+ string utilities.
+ some file system functionalities.
+ symbols and dll handling.
+ locales.
+ calendar operations (formatting supporting locales). * AWConfig
o we support both XML and plain text files
o using String types. * AWLog
o highly configurable and powerful logging facilities.
o support multiple output formats (called log writers).
o regular expressions support in log pattern. * AWPlug
o system-independent plugin facilities.
o can handle library prefix and suffix depending on the system (looks for lib[plugin_name].so in linux and [plugin_name].dll in windows) * APQ
o the already known database bindings, now supporting a more flexible build system (based on gnat's GPR files)
o the core have been cleared and split into sub projects for each database product:
+ APQ-MySQL?
+ APQ-PostgreSQL?
+ APQ-Sybase?
# this should be changed anytime soon (delayed, but before the 3.0-alpha2 release)
# instead of apq-sybase deriving from apq we'll have apq-ct_lib, from which we'll implement apq-mssql and apq-sybase * AWDB
o programatical tools for building Database Neutral SQL Queries.
o still in early stages, but will easy the development of valid and efficient queries for different database products 1. AWSec
* modular security facilities handling both authentication and authorization (in independent way).
* accounting is also implemented 2. AWEnt
* entity management for Ada (based on APQ).
* should be started simultaneously (maybe with a short delay) with AWSec. 3. AWView
* a framework for helping building complex web sites based with AWS. 4. AWDist
* a distributed structure for business applications with a simple but yet efficient implementation.
* this should include extension for both AWSec and AWEnt For more details please refer to Project Overview and Project Releases. ===============

Having GPS installed, the environment variables set (PATH and ADA_PROJECT_PATH) and xmlada installed (for AWconfig), you
can get into any of the modules and "do make".

This is the base package for the KOW Framework.
This document is highly outdated.

= 2. Dependencies =
===================
Install MSYS and MinGW (http://www.mingw.org). Then, make sure you have a recent version of GNAT (https://libre.adacore.com/dynamic/download_page)
installed on c:/GNAT. Then, add c:/GNAT /gnat
to your fstab on msys/etc and its (GNAT) bin path tho the $PATH environment variable like this:
$ export PATH=gnat/2008/bin:$PATH
This will get make to call the gcc version that comes with GPS, instead of using the older version that comes with MingW.
This one is required for us to be able to compile the source code written in Ada 2005.
Moreover, you will need all the paths containing the project files (.gpr) in the
environment variable ADA_PROJECT_PATH. To set this, still inside adaworks_trunk, run $ source export_path.sh
To build AWConfig library you will need xmlada installed. Download xmlada (https://libre.adacore.com/dynamic/download_page),
unzip the file at c:/xmlada-build and create c:/xmlada. Include these lines in the file /etc/fstab of your MingW: c:/xmlada-build /xmlada-build
c:/xmlada /xmlada
c:/adaworks /adaworks
Then, do:
cd /xmlada-build
./configure --prefix=/xmlada
make
make install
to get xmlada built and installed.

= 3. Code structure =

Adaworks is composed by these libraries (they are ready to use in Linux - even though they shouldn't be considered stable yet - and should run fine in Windows (cygwin)):
* AWLib
o for now we have:
+ string utilities.
+ some file system functionalities.
+ symbols and dll handling.
+ locales.
+ calendar operations (formatting supporting locales). * AWConfig
o we support both XML and plain text files
o using String types. * AWLog
o highly configurable and powerful logging facilities.
o support multiple output formats (called log writers).
o regular expressions support in log pattern. * AWPlug
o system-independent plugin facilities.
o can handle library prefix and suffix depending on the system (looks for lib[plugin_name].so in linux and [plugin_name].dll in windows) * APQ
o the already known database bindings, now supporting a more flexible build system (based on gnat's GPR files)
o the core have been cleared and split into sub projects for each database product:
+ APQ-MySQL?
+ APQ-PostgreSQL?
+ APQ-Sybase?
# this should be changed anytime soon (delayed, but before the 3.0-alpha2 release)
# instead of apq-sybase deriving from apq we'll have apq-ct_lib, from which we'll implement apq-mssql and apq-sybase * AWDB
o programatical tools for building Database Neutral SQL Queries.
o still in early stages, but will easy the development of valid and efficient queries for different database products 1. AWSec
* modular security facilities handling both authentication and authorization (in independent way).
* accounting is also implemented 2. AWEnt
* entity management for Ada (based on APQ).
* should be started simultaneously (maybe with a short delay) with AWSec. 3. AWView
* a framework for helping building complex web sites based with AWS. 4. AWDist
* a distributed structure for business applications with a simple but yet efficient implementation.
* this should include extension for both AWSec and AWEnt For more details please refer to Project Overview and Project Releases. ===============

Having GPS installed, the environment variables set (PATH and ADA_PROJECT_PATH) and xmlada installed (for AWconfig), you
can get into any of the modules and "do make".
