  • add missing test dependencies (g++, cmake)
  • force overwriting /usr/bin/python symlink on OpenSUSE
  • bump FreeBSD image (the old one is gone)

None of this was required at the time the last PR was merged, and I don't think the CI images have been updated since. What makes all this necessary now? In particular I'm surprised by cmake being present then but missing now.

I pulled the commits into #831 and adjusted the commit messages with more explanations.
