Closes the remaining SEP-1730 Tier 1 gaps. This PR fills the documentation and governance requirements.

Documentation (README.md)

Documents the previously-missing features, each with an example:

  • Tools — image / audio / embedded-resource results, plus an error-handling section (tool-level CallToolResult::error vs. protocol Err(McpError))
  • Resources — reading binary (blob) content
  • Prompts — image and embedded-resource content
  • Elicitation — new section: form mode, schema validation, defaults, enum values, URL mode, response notification
  • Ping — documented as auto-answered by the default handlers
  • Transports — new section (stdio, child process, Streamable HTTP, worker), with an honest note that SSE is the response-stream framing inside Streamable HTTP rather than a separate transport
  • Pagination, Capability & Protocol Version Negotiation, JSON Schema 2020-12
  • Table of Contents updated

Governance

  • VERSIONING.md — SemVer scheme, what counts as a breaking change, MSRV policy, how breaking changes are communicated (release-plz + Conventional Commits + cargo-semver-checks).
  • DEPENDENCY_POLICY.md — dependency selection, the existing Dependabot automation, review/merge and security-update handling, MSRV.

Roadmap

  • ROADMAP.md refreshed to reflect 100% dated conformance on both 2025-11-25 and 2026-07-28, and the shipped v3.0.x stable release.

Closes the remaining SEP-1730 Tier 1 gaps. This PR fills the documentation and governance requirements.

Documentation (README.md)

Documents the previously-missing features, each with an example:

  • Tools — image / audio / embedded-resource results, plus an error-handling section (tool-level CallToolResult::error vs. protocol Err(McpError))
  • Resources — reading binary (blob) content
  • Prompts — image and embedded-resource content
  • Elicitation — new section: form mode, schema validation, defaults, enum values, URL mode, response notification
  • Ping — documented as auto-answered by the default handlers
  • Transports — new section (stdio, child process, Streamable HTTP, worker), with an honest note that SSE is the response-stream framing inside Streamable HTTP rather than a separate transport
  • Pagination, Capability & Protocol Version Negotiation, JSON Schema 2020-12
  • Table of Contents updated

Governance

  • VERSIONING.md — SemVer scheme, what counts as a breaking change, MSRV policy, how breaking changes are communicated (release-plz + Conventional Commits + cargo-semver-checks).
  • DEPENDENCY_POLICY.md — dependency selection, the existing Dependabot automation, review/merge and security-update handling, MSRV.

Roadmap

  • ROADMAP.md refreshed to reflect 100% dated conformance on both 2025-11-25 and 2026-07-28, and the shipped v3.0.x stable release.
