Rather than the legacy per-object pattern, wouldn't process.ref()/.unref() (#53266) be a better fit here? It was designed for exactly this, avoiding non-standard method pollution on web platform APIs.

Rather than the legacy per-object pattern, wouldn't process.ref()/.unref() (#53266) be a better fit here? It was designed for exactly this, avoiding non-standard method pollution on web platform APIs.
