Python Remote Attach VS Code not working

I have tried using the Python Remote Attach on VS Code with version 3.0.2-rc3 and was unable to get it to connect to the debugger.
Debugging experience needs to be more reliable.

Getting the following ERR:refused to connect error

Remote Attach Config:

With the new Python extension in Visual Studio Code, debugging is not reliable anymore and is broken. I cannot get breakpoints to hit with "remote attach" nor "attach using process ID"
This needs to be fixed for enabling better python plugin development

I had similar issues and now got it working.
My main points that helped to get it running:
1.) First I had a python version installed which is not supported. Currently only python 3.13 is supported.

2.) Make sure debugpy (and numpy) is installed for that python version.
3.) I received the same error as mentioned here, changing to a different port solved that problem
4.) Pay attention to the pathMappings.
a.) Either open the OpenTAP root folder in VScode. Then you have the mappings as suggested in the tutorial:
"pathMappings": [ { "localRoot": "${workspaceFolder}", "remoteRoot": "." }
b.) Or else set the "localRoot" to the OpenTAP root folder:
"pathMappings": [ { "localRoot": "C:\\Program Files\\OpenTAP", "remoteRoot": "." } ],
