My application has been pending for about 11 months #203904
🏷️ Discussion TypeQuestion 💬 Feature/Topic AreaVerification Help & Guidance Hi everyone,I submitted the benefit application in last year, but the status has been stuck on "Pending". I have not received any email and notifications about this issue, and I'm unable to determine what was being delayed. |

Man 11 months pending is crazy... at this point your original app is definitely stuck in review limbo. GitHub's automated verification system breaks down sometimes and if it misses your app initially, it basically just gets forgotten about. Here is what usually fixes this for people:
Try reapplying with a verified school email + submitting a support ticket today. It usually clears up within a few days when you do both. Hope this helps! |
Eleven months isn't a queue backlog — applications don't sit that long under normal processing. What that status almost certainly means is that your application was set aside pending additional proof, and the notification never reached you. The dashboard doesn't always surface that state clearly, which is why it still reads as "Pending" to you. The support link that actually matters GitHub Education has a dedicated support channel, separate from general GitHub Support: https://support.github.com/contact/education Use that one rather than the general contact form — education verification issues routed through general support tend to get bounced. Before you reapply, check the things that silently block verification Per GitHub's docs, these are the usual causes, and several are easy to miss:
Also make sure the school email is added and verified on your account (Settings → Emails) before you submit. Verification against a confirmed academic address is what lets an application clear without manual review. On reapplying Do submit a fresh application with a currently-dated document — a student ID with a valid-through date, an enrollment certificate, or a transcript showing the current term. But open the support ticket too rather than relying on reapplication alone. If a domain-recognition problem is what stalled you the first time, a new application hits exactly the same wall, and support is the only path that resolves it. One thing worth setting expectations on: this is a community forum, so nobody here can approve or unstick an application. The education support channel is the only route to that. |
