Summary

Follow-up to the t3vm reconnect storms: guest Jaeger showed live WS sessions dominated by runGitCommand / detect / VcsStatusBroadcaster work. Root issues were TTL stacking (detect 2s, fetch 15s, remote status 25s vs 30s poll), cache wipe on last unsubscribe (reconnect cold-path storm), and unbounded concurrent git.

Changes

KnobBeforeAfter
Detection cache (positive)2s5 min
Detection cache (negative)2s15s
Local status cache1s5s
Remote status cache25s90s (≥ poll)
Upstream git fetch coalesce15s90s
Broadcaster snapshot on last unsubdeletedretained
Concurrent git processesunbounded8

Manual refresh / invalidate still force-reloads. Explicit PR actions unchanged.

Expected impact

  • Steady-state remote poll ticks mostly cache-hit instead of re-detect + fetch + gh per worktree every 30s
  • Reconnect no longer immediately re-runs full local status for every previously subscribed cwd
  • Host swap thrash from N× multi-git fan-out is hard-capped

Out of scope (later)

  • Cap client sidebar worktree subscription fan-out / shorter idle TTL
  • Lightweight badge-only local status (skip numstat)
  • Fold detect into status cache keys

Test plan

  • VcsStatusBroadcaster.test.ts (reconnect retains local cache)
  • VcsDriverRegistry.test.ts, GitVcsDriverCore.test.ts, GitManager.test.ts (131 tests)
  • vp check + full monorepo typecheck
  • After deploy: Jaeger runGitCommand / detectGitRepositoryForStatus volume under multi-worktree UI should drop; fewer ping-timeout disconnects on smart→t3vm

Align remote/fetch/detect caches with the 30s poll interval, retain
broadcaster snapshots across last-unsubscribe, and cap concurrent git
spawns so worktree fan-out cannot thrash the host and delay RPC pongs.

Align remote/fetch/detect caches with the 30s poll interval, retain
broadcaster snapshots across last-unsubscribe, and cap concurrent git
spawns so worktree fan-out cannot thrash the host and delay RPC pongs.

Summary

Follow-up to the t3vm reconnect storms: guest Jaeger showed live WS sessions dominated by runGitCommand / detect / VcsStatusBroadcaster work. Root issues were TTL stacking (detect 2s, fetch 15s, remote status 25s vs 30s poll), cache wipe on last unsubscribe (reconnect cold-path storm), and unbounded concurrent git.

Changes

KnobBeforeAfter
Detection cache (positive)2s5 min
Detection cache (negative)2s15s
Local status cache1s5s
Remote status cache25s90s (≥ poll)
Upstream git fetch coalesce15s90s
Broadcaster snapshot on last unsubdeletedretained
Concurrent git processesunbounded8

Manual refresh / invalidate still force-reloads. Explicit PR actions unchanged.

Expected impact

  • Steady-state remote poll ticks mostly cache-hit instead of re-detect + fetch + gh per worktree every 30s
  • Reconnect no longer immediately re-runs full local status for every previously subscribed cwd
  • Host swap thrash from N× multi-git fan-out is hard-capped

Out of scope (later)

  • Cap client sidebar worktree subscription fan-out / shorter idle TTL
  • Lightweight badge-only local status (skip numstat)
  • Fold detect into status cache keys

Test plan

  • VcsStatusBroadcaster.test.ts (reconnect retains local cache)
  • VcsDriverRegistry.test.ts, GitVcsDriverCore.test.ts, GitManager.test.ts (131 tests)
  • vp check + full monorepo typecheck
  • After deploy: Jaeger runGitCommand / detectGitRepositoryForStatus volume under multi-worktree UI should drop; fewer ping-timeout disconnects on smart→t3vm

Align remote/fetch/detect caches with the 30s poll interval, retain
broadcaster snapshots across last-unsubscribe, and cap concurrent git
spawns so worktree fan-out cannot thrash the host and delay RPC pongs.
