Using Protontricks appimage with the Steam appimage

is there a way to make protontricks recognize the steam appimage?
because i tried to use the "STEAM_DIR" option in the terminal and pointing it to the .home folder of the steam appimage but it doesn't seem to work 🤔
also if i try to run "protontricks --gui" it just says
Steam installation directory could not be found.

STEAM_DIR has to contain a steamapps directory and a ubuntu12_32 directory.

I think you need to point the variable to the.local/share/Steam directory rather than the one .steam directory.
