Problem

Automated calendar invitation-response emails ("Accepted: …", "Declined: …", "Tentative: …" that Google/Outlook send when an invitee responds) showed up needing attention. An acceptance is a passive confirmation — it shouldn't demand action.

While investigating I also found a latent bug: a short automated decline would fall through to the generic short automated → notification branch and get swept into the muted FYI focus too — the opposite of what we want for declines.

Change

In the shared libs/email-classifiercomputeFormat (used by both the Gmail and Outlook Mail connectors):

  • Accepted: → format: "notification" → routes to the muted FYI focus ("skip active"), regardless of body length.
  • Declined: / Tentative: → format: null → stays active, and explicitly short-circuits the generic notification branch so a short automated decline can't leak into FYI.
  • Gated on automation === "automated", so a real person writing "Accepted: your proposal" is unaffected (stays a normal message).

Tentative is treated like a decline (stays active), since only firm acceptances are clearly action-free.

Tests

TDD — 4 new cases in classify-email.test.ts (failing first, then green):

  • acceptance → notification regardless of body length
  • decline stays null even when short + automated (the regression guard)
  • tentative stays null
  • human "Accepted:" stays message

Verified: @plotday/email-classifier 40 pass · gmail 30 pass · outlook-mail 31 pass · tsc clean.

No changeset (this package isn't @plotday/twister).

Problem
Automated calendar invitation-response emails ("Accepted: …", "Declined: …", "Tentative: …" that Google/Outlook send when an invitee responds) showed up needing attention. An acceptance is a passive confirmation — it shouldn't demand action.
While investigating I also found a latent bug: a short automated decline would fall through to the generic short automated → notification branch and get swept into the muted FYI focus too — the opposite of what we want for declines.
Change
In the shared libs/email-classifiercomputeFormat (used by both the Gmail and Outlook Mail connectors):
  • Accepted: → format: "notification" → routes to the muted FYI focus ("skip active"), regardless of body length.
  • Declined: / Tentative: → format: null → stays active, and explicitly short-circuits the generic notification branch so a short automated decline can't leak into FYI.
  • Gated on automation === "automated", so a real person writing "Accepted: your proposal" is unaffected (stays a normal message).
Tentative is treated like a decline (stays active), since only firm acceptances are clearly action-free.
Tests
TDD — 4 new cases in classify-email.test.ts (failing first, then green):
  • acceptance → notification regardless of body length
  • decline stays null even when short + automated (the regression guard)
  • tentative stays null
  • human "Accepted:" stays message
Verified: @plotday/email-classifier 40 pass · gmail 30 pass · outlook-mail 31 pass · tsc clean.
No changeset (this package isn't @plotday/twister).
