Point Blue’s Palomarin Field Station has been in operation since 1966. The Data Explorer is a series of web pages that help tell the key science stories coming out of the long-term data collected at Palomarin and provide opportunities to access to the field station’s data. This repository contains the code necessary to produce the interactive graphics viewable on each page. The graphics themselves are hosted by Github, and made viewable through an iframe on the Point Blue website.

Individual graphics:
- Banding capture rates: Annual statistics updated through 2024; Seasonal statistics also include spring (Mar-Jul) and fall (Aug-Oct) 2025 (Jan-Feb 2026 were not yet available, so winter 2025 (Nov-Feb) and Annual 2025 (Mar25-Feb26) are currently excluded)
- Weather data: Annual average temperature data updated through
2023; Precipitation data updated through the 2022-2023 bioyear
(running July-June)
- Average temp data: Updated through 2023, except that Jan 2024 was not yet available to complete winter 2023 stats
- Annual precipitation totals: Updated through the 2022-23 bioyear (July-June); Jan-Jun 2024 not yet available to complete the 2023-24 bioyear
- Breeding territory data: Complete through the 2020 breeding season; no additional territory mapping data has taken place since 2020 due to habitat succession and limited accessibility in much of the study area; future territory mapping is pending vegetation management efforts and fundraising
- Migratory connectivity map: Does not yet include most recent Golden-crowned Sparrow studies (Iverson et al 2023-2025)
We anticipate that the data available through the Data Explorer website will be updated intermittently as capacity allows. The Data Explorer website does not yet fully represent all types of data collected at the field station or at nearby, related study sites; additional pages or graphics may be added as capacity allows.
