Recurring Events System

This is a small local system for yearly recurring responsibilities.

It uses:

  • recurring-events.json as the source of truth
  • build-recurring-plan.ps1 to generate outputs
  • generated\Recurring-Plan-YYYY.md as the yearly working checklist
  • generated\Recurring-Events.ics as the calendar import file
  • app\dashboard.html as the local dashboard

Why this format

This is the most practical structure for future years:

  1. Keep the recurring definition in one machine-readable file.
  2. Generate a human-readable Markdown checklist every year.
  3. Import the .ics file into a calendar so you also get reminders.
  4. Open the local dashboard when you want a visual control panel.

That gives you:

  • memory / alerts
  • a concrete checklist to work through
  • a dashboard UI for details and progress

Files

  • recurring-events.json
  • build-recurring-plan.ps1
  • open-dashboard.bat
  • app\favicon.svg
  • generated\Recurring-Plan-2026.md
  • generated\Recurring-Events.ics

How to use

Run:

powershell.exe-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\build-recurring-plan.ps1

Optional parameters:

powershell.exe-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\build-recurring-plan.ps1 -Year 2027

After running:

  • open the generated Markdown file
  • import generated\Recurring-Events.ics into Outlook / Google Calendar

To open the dashboard:

powershell.exe-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\open-dashboard.ps1

Recommended workflow

For each recurring event, define:

  • the real due date
  • one or more earlier reminder dates
  • the checklist of documents or actions
  • optional notes
  • optional links
  • optional attachment or folder paths

For taxes, the right structure is:

  • one yearly recurring calendar reminder
  • one yearly Markdown checklist
  • one dedicated folder for that tax year
  • notes that explain how that cycle works
  • links to generated outputs or portals

JSON shape

Each event can include:

  • headline: short card title in the dashboard
  • owner: who the item belongs to
  • category: used for grouping / labeling
  • theme: visual accent in the dashboard
  • notes: array of guidance lines
  • links: array of { "label", "href", "kind" }
  • attachments: array of file or folder names / paths

The Review Home Insurance event is included as the learning example for a non-tax annual workflow.

First example included

This system already includes:

  • yearly tax document collection for last year's tax calculation
  • yearly review of the tax checklist template
  • a dashboard that opens each item into a detailed working view

Recurring Events System

This is a small local system for yearly recurring responsibilities.

It uses:

  • recurring-events.json as the source of truth
  • build-recurring-plan.ps1 to generate outputs
  • generated\Recurring-Plan-YYYY.md as the yearly working checklist
  • generated\Recurring-Events.ics as the calendar import file
  • app\dashboard.html as the local dashboard

Why this format

This is the most practical structure for future years:

  1. Keep the recurring definition in one machine-readable file.
  2. Generate a human-readable Markdown checklist every year.
  3. Import the .ics file into a calendar so you also get reminders.
  4. Open the local dashboard when you want a visual control panel.

That gives you:

  • memory / alerts
  • a concrete checklist to work through
  • a dashboard UI for details and progress

Files

  • recurring-events.json
  • build-recurring-plan.ps1
  • open-dashboard.bat
  • app\favicon.svg
  • generated\Recurring-Plan-2026.md
  • generated\Recurring-Events.ics

How to use

Run:

powershell.exe-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\build-recurring-plan.ps1

Optional parameters:

powershell.exe-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\build-recurring-plan.ps1 -Year 2027

After running:

  • open the generated Markdown file
  • import generated\Recurring-Events.ics into Outlook / Google Calendar

To open the dashboard:

powershell.exe-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\open-dashboard.ps1

Recommended workflow

For each recurring event, define:

  • the real due date
  • one or more earlier reminder dates
  • the checklist of documents or actions
  • optional notes
  • optional links
  • optional attachment or folder paths

For taxes, the right structure is:

  • one yearly recurring calendar reminder
  • one yearly Markdown checklist
  • one dedicated folder for that tax year
  • notes that explain how that cycle works
  • links to generated outputs or portals

JSON shape

Each event can include:

  • headline: short card title in the dashboard
  • owner: who the item belongs to
  • category: used for grouping / labeling
  • theme: visual accent in the dashboard
  • notes: array of guidance lines
  • links: array of { "label", "href", "kind" }
