I have a few questions I need answered before I use your service.

1. what is the pricing after you exceed the free limitations?

2. can you make DB backups and download?

3. how reliable is this service? it's very new and I can't find much on it. before I commit, I want to be sure you'll still be around in a year.

1. We will be posting pricing for the cloud database option on our website soon. We will be offering introductory pricing of $99 / month for 10 GB of storage and 1 TB of outbound bandwidth. Additional bandwidth will be $50 / TB / month, and additional storage $25 / 10GB. Inbound bandwidth is free.
2. Yes, you can make backups in the web interface. You can also export all your data at any time.
3. We've been around since 2009 and are growing fast. We have a lot more exciting stuff coming up this year, too. Hope you can join us!

Thanks Dave, I appreciate it. Jumping from free to $99 is a bit of a
concern for me. Any chance of offering an additional tier in the $20/mo
region?

No, but if your usage won't hit the 10GB/1TB level, we have another option that might work for you. Please email me (dave@spr...ase.com) with some info about your expected usage if you'd like to discuss that.

I saw no options for some common relational constraints, such as marking a
column "must be unique" or "can not be null", etc. Is there support for
these?

Yes, but they're in limited release right now so you don't have them by default. I've requested that they be enabled on your account. Should happen shortly.

Thank you, much appreciated.

I'm developing a Node.js application, but will likely go with a MySql
database because Springbase isn't quite mature enough yet.

I will continue to observe your progress, and keep you in mind for future
projects.

I'd love to hear a technical argument for going with Springbase over MySql
when developing a Node.js app. The pricing is about equivalent, as is the
Node.js integration code. I'm compelled to go with Springpad, but I'm
having trouble justifying my subjective desire with objective reasoning.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your comments! Springbase in general is about virtualizing infrastructure so you focus on application logic and write less code. Our NodeJS driver is an easy entry point for people already working with NodeJS so they don't have to switch over to the whole Springbase stack.

The main reasons you'd go with a cloud database like Springbase (or Amazon RDS, or Heroku Postgres) are to avoid spending time configuring and maintaining a database server, and to have an easy path to scale if your service grows. Also we think our built-in web management tools are pretty slick.

We have some cool new features coming in the next few months that will make this NodeJS driver even more compelling. Stay tuned!
