This PR optimizes the Stache warming process.

The issue

When warming an empty Stache, every YAML file is currently parsed twice. This happens in

  1. Store::paths() where you store the parsed item, but the parsed result is immediately discarded:

    $fileItems = $files->map(function ($timestamp, $path) {
    return [
    'item' => $item = $this->makeItemFromFile($path, File::get($path)),
    'key' => $this->getItemKey($item),
    'path' => $path,
    ];
    });

  2. Then again in BasicStore::getItem():

    $item = $this->makeItemFromFile($path, File::get($path));

Solution

We can solve this double parsing issue by caching the parsed items inside paths() so when getItem() is subsequently called, it finds the item in cache ✨

With this optimization I could reduce my Stache warming time from 56.8s to 36.24s 🚀

A little too good to be true. I noticed the sitemap broke in SEO Pro. There's probably other knock-on effects of this.
We'll revisit though. Sorry about that!

I noticed the sitemap broke in SEO Pro.

Was the SEO Pro issue related to sitemap.xml returning no entries on a warmed Stache?

I just checked, and this still seems to be broken in 6.4.1, so it doesn’t appear to be related to this PR. Not sure if you were seeing something else though .. :)

That is what I was seeing. Yup. And reverting this PR fixed it. At least on single site. Interesting.

That is what I was seeing. Yup. And reverting this PR fixed it. At least on single site. Interesting.

This PR optimizes the Stache warming process.

The issue

When warming an empty Stache, every YAML file is currently parsed twice. This happens in

  1. Store::paths() where you store the parsed item, but the parsed result is immediately discarded:

    $fileItems = $files->map(function ($timestamp, $path) {
    return [
    'item' => $item = $this->makeItemFromFile($path, File::get($path)),
    'key' => $this->getItemKey($item),
    'path' => $path,
    ];
    });

  2. Then again in BasicStore::getItem():

    $item = $this->makeItemFromFile($path, File::get($path));
