Roadmap Phase 3a — grow the topology ISA with an emittable select move. The program-synthesis lens flagged that select was an interpreter builtin the agent couldn't author; this makes it authorable — the planner runs the selector (declares the winner) instead of the kernel's argmax.

What

  • TopologyMove gains {kind:'select', index, rationale?} — terminal like stop, but the kernel uses iteration index as the winner. validateMove requires a non-negative integer index; plan() range-checks it against history and requires the selected iteration produced output (fail-loud — override the argmax, don't invent a winner).
  • New optional Driver.selectWinner(history) — the dynamic driver returns the declared winner after a select move, undefined otherwise. run-loop finalize precedence: caller options.selectWinner > driver-authored > defaultSelectWinner. Drivers that don't implement it (or return undefined) keep the exact prior behavior.
  • sandbox-planner: envelope gains index; envelopeToMove decodes select; the planner prompt documents the move.

Verified

tsc + biome clean; 74/74 loops tests. The 4 new tests prove: select overrides the argmax; out-of-range fails loud; a caller selectWinner beats a planner select (precedence); the sandbox-planner decodes a select envelope.

Notes

No cadence changeselect returns [] and breaks the loop exactly like stop, so the kernel's plan→batch→decide rhythm is untouched. seq (sub-program / nested topology) is the remaining, higher-risk ISA step (it does touch the kernel cadence) — a deliberate follow-on, not in this PR.

Roadmap Phase 3a — grow the topology ISA with an emittable select move. The program-synthesis lens flagged that select was an interpreter builtin the agent couldn't author; this makes it authorable — the planner runs the selector (declares the winner) instead of the kernel's argmax.

What

  • TopologyMove gains {kind:'select', index, rationale?} — terminal like stop, but the kernel uses iteration index as the winner. validateMove requires a non-negative integer index; plan() range-checks it against history and requires the selected iteration produced output (fail-loud — override the argmax, don't invent a winner).
  • New optional Driver.selectWinner(history) — the dynamic driver returns the declared winner after a select move, undefined otherwise. run-loop finalize precedence: caller options.selectWinner > driver-authored > defaultSelectWinner. Drivers that don't implement it (or return undefined) keep the exact prior behavior.
  • sandbox-planner: envelope gains index; envelopeToMove decodes select; the planner prompt documents the move.

Verified

tsc + biome clean; 74/74 loops tests. The 4 new tests prove: select overrides the argmax; out-of-range fails loud; a caller selectWinner beats a planner select (precedence); the sandbox-planner decodes a select envelope.

Notes

No cadence changeselect returns [] and breaks the loop exactly like stop, so the kernel's plan→batch→decide rhythm is untouched. seq (sub-program / nested topology) is the remaining, higher-risk ISA step (it does touch the kernel cadence) — a deliberate follow-on, not in this PR.
