Not sure, but it seems like something changed in the Nan module that affects node-stringpreps ability to install correctly:

There is a WIP here #72 but since node-xmpp doesn't use node-stringprep anymore I don't think any of us will finish that PR.

nvm install 0.12.18 worked for me (same errors, different project; ended up here through google). This was suggested in meanjs/mean#1159
