Summary

  • Add guarded Result helpers to packages/shared/src/result.ts: tryCatchIf, asyncTryCatchIf, unwrapOr, mapResult, asyncTryCatch, and error predicates (isFileError, isNetworkError, isOperationalError)
  • Transform ~40 try/catch blocks across 14 files to use guarded catches — operational errors (I/O, network) are handled explicitly while programming bugs (TypeError, ReferenceError) propagate and crash visibly
  • Add 43 new tests in result-helpers.test.ts covering all helpers, predicates, and bug propagation behavior
  • Version bump: 0.16.1 → 0.16.2

What changed

CategoryFilesTransform
File I/Omanifest.ts, update-check.ts, history.ts, ui.ts, oauth.ts, aws.ts, digitalocean.tstryCatchIf(isFileError, fn)
Network/fetchmanifest.ts, update-check.ts, oauth.ts, digitalocean.ts, hetzner.tsasyncTryCatchIf(isNetworkError, fn)
SSH/subprocessagent-setup.ts, orchestrate.tsasyncTryCatchIf(isOperationalError, fn)
API retriesdigitalocean.ts, hetzner.tsGuard retry with isNetworkError

What stays unchanged (~85 blocks)

  • try/finally for cleanup (timeout clears, temp file deletion)
  • Silent swallow for cleanup (unlinkSync, proc.kill())
  • Catch-classify-rethrow patterns (wrapSshCall, billing checks)
  • User-facing error handlers with recovery hints
  • TTY/terminal operations in picker.ts

Test plan

  • bunx @biomejs/biome check src/ — 115 files, zero errors
  • bun test — 1563 pass, 0 fail
  • New test file validates bug propagation (TypeError/ReferenceError NOT caught by guards)

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Add tryCatchIf/asyncTryCatchIf with error predicates (isFileError,
isNetworkError, isOperationalError) so operational errors are handled
explicitly while programming bugs (TypeError, ReferenceError) propagate
and crash visibly instead of being silently swallowed.
Transforms ~40 try/catch blocks across 14 files:
- File I/O (manifest cache, config loading, history) → tryCatchIf(isFileError)
- Network/fetch (API calls, version checks, OAuth) → asyncTryCatchIf(isNetworkError)
- SSH/subprocess (agent setup, tunnel) → asyncTryCatchIf(isOperationalError)
- API retry loops (DO, Hetzner) → guard retries with isNetworkError
Intentionally keeps ~85 try/catch blocks as-is (cleanup/finally, retry
loops, user-facing error handlers, catch-classify-rethrow patterns).

Summary

  • Add guarded Result helpers to packages/shared/src/result.ts: tryCatchIf, asyncTryCatchIf, unwrapOr, mapResult, asyncTryCatch, and error predicates (isFileError, isNetworkError, isOperationalError)
  • Transform ~40 try/catch blocks across 14 files to use guarded catches — operational errors (I/O, network) are handled explicitly while programming bugs (TypeError, ReferenceError) propagate and crash visibly
  • Add 43 new tests in result-helpers.test.ts covering all helpers, predicates, and bug propagation behavior
  • Version bump: 0.16.1 → 0.16.2

What changed

CategoryFilesTransform
File I/Omanifest.ts, update-check.ts, history.ts, ui.ts, oauth.ts, aws.ts, digitalocean.tstryCatchIf(isFileError, fn)
Network/fetchmanifest.ts, update-check.ts, oauth.ts, digitalocean.ts, hetzner.tsasyncTryCatchIf(isNetworkError, fn)
SSH/subprocessagent-setup.ts, orchestrate.tsasyncTryCatchIf(isOperationalError, fn)
API retriesdigitalocean.ts, hetzner.tsGuard retry with isNetworkError

What stays unchanged (~85 blocks)

  • try/finally for cleanup (timeout clears, temp file deletion)
  • Silent swallow for cleanup (unlinkSync, proc.kill())
  • Catch-classify-rethrow patterns (wrapSshCall, billing checks)
  • User-facing error handlers with recovery hints
  • TTY/terminal operations in picker.ts

Test plan

  • bunx @biomejs/biome check src/ — 115 files, zero errors
  • bun test — 1563 pass, 0 fail
  • New test file validates bug propagation (TypeError/ReferenceError NOT caught by guards)

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Add tryCatchIf/asyncTryCatchIf with error predicates (isFileError,
isNetworkError, isOperationalError) so operational errors are handled
explicitly while programming bugs (TypeError, ReferenceError) propagate
and crash visibly instead of being silently swallowed.
Transforms ~40 try/catch blocks across 14 files:
- File I/O (manifest cache, config loading, history) → tryCatchIf(isFileError)
- Network/fetch (API calls, version checks, OAuth) → asyncTryCatchIf(isNetworkError)
- SSH/subprocess (agent setup, tunnel) → asyncTryCatchIf(isOperationalError)
- API retry loops (DO, Hetzner) → guard retries with isNetworkError
Intentionally keeps ~85 try/catch blocks as-is (cleanup/finally, retry
loops, user-facing error handlers, catch-classify-rethrow patterns).
