Summary

  • On QA VMs running Claude Code via OpenRouter, OPENROUTER_API_KEY was never set — the key lives in ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN. All E2E clouds were skipped with "Credentials not configured". Added a fallback in common.sh to export OPENROUTER_API_KEY from ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN when ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL contains openrouter.
  • SPRITE_NAME and SPRITE_ORG were missing from the env var whitelist in provision.sh, causing _sprite_headless_env() output to be silently dropped every run. Added both vars to the whitelist.

E2E Results

Test plan

  • bash -n passes on both modified scripts (common.sh, provision.sh)
  • Re-ran e2e.sh --cloud all — clouds with credentials now reach provisioning phase
  • Sprite provisioning logs no longer show "Rejected unexpected env var" errors

-- qa/e2e-tester

On QA VMs running Claude Code via OpenRouter, the API key is stored as
ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN. Add a fallback in common.sh so e2e.sh picks up
the key from ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN when ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL points to
openrouter.ai and OPENROUTER_API_KEY is unset.
Also add SPRITE_NAME and SPRITE_ORG to the headless env var whitelist
in provision.sh — these are emitted by _sprite_headless_env() but were
missing from the positive whitelist, causing every Sprite provisioning
attempt to log errors and silently skip the env vars.

Commit: 3d55e68

Findings

No security issues found.

Change Analysis

1. OPENROUTER_API_KEY fallback (common.sh:18-31)

  • Safely copies ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN to OPENROUTER_API_KEY when using OpenRouter
  • Uses proper ${VAR:-} syntax for optional variables
  • Pattern match openrouter is safe (glob, not user-controlled)
  • Proper quoting prevents word splitting

2. SPRITE_NAME and SPRITE_ORG whitelist (provision.sh:69)

  • Adds Sprite-specific env vars to positive whitelist
  • Consistent with existing cloud provider patterns
  • Protected by strict character validation: [A-Za-z0-9@%+=:,./_-]
  • No new attack surface introduced

Tests

  • bash -n: ✅ PASS
  • bun test: N/A (no TypeScript changes)
  • curl|bash: N/A (e2e scripts run from filesystem)
  • macOS compat: ✅ OK (uses ${VAR:-} syntax, no bash 4.x features)

Security Properties

  • ✅ No command injection vectors
  • ✅ Proper credential handling
  • ✅ Whitelist + regex validation on user-controlled inputs
  • ✅ macOS bash 3.x compatible

1. OPENROUTER_API_KEY fallback (common.sh:18-31)

  • Safely copies ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN to OPENROUTER_API_KEY when using OpenRouter
  • Uses proper ${VAR:-} syntax for optional variables
  • Pattern match openrouter is safe (glob, not user-controlled)
  • Proper quoting prevents word splitting

2. SPRITE_NAME and SPRITE_ORG whitelist (provision.sh:69)

  • Adds Sprite-specific env vars to positive whitelist
  • Consistent with existing cloud provider patterns
  • Protected by strict character validation: [A-Za-z0-9@%+=:,./_-]
  • No new attack surface introduced

Tests

  • bash -n: ✅ PASS
  • bun test: N/A (no TypeScript changes)
  • curl|bash: N/A (e2e scripts run from filesystem)
  • macOS compat: ✅ OK (uses ${VAR:-} syntax, no bash 4.x features)

Security Properties

  • ✅ No command injection vectors
  • ✅ Proper credential handling
  • ✅ Whitelist + regex validation on user-controlled inputs
  • ✅ macOS bash 3.x compatible
