ReBoot is a 3D Puzzle Platformer set in a world where AI rule, as humans have long but vanished except for a couple. Your goal at the beginning is glitched, leaving you to wonder what job your robot was really designed for. Whatever it is though, it has to do with whatever humans remain... The main mechanic of this game is being able to switch between different robots who can perform different actions. Use this ability to teleport and parkore over obstacles.

The core of the gameplay is swaping between robots with different abilities so as to solve puzzles and parkour to make progress. There are 3 distinct zones in the game:
-
The Urban City
-
The Museum
-
The Cinema
These only serve as context for different puzzle elements/visual identity. The gameplay remains largely the same throughout each area.
There are 3 different robots that you can take control of:
-
Button Pusher
-
High Jumper
-
Dasher
You can switch with robots as long as you have line of sight with them, and through grids.
This was our very first team project. It was a ride from start to end, as we figured out how to work with one another: Ideas and concepts had to be cut and revised, and we all had our own roles. This means that this was a test not just in making the game itself, but also softer skills such as communication and understanding. We also got to see how other roles worked in tandem, and what steps they took to achieve their goals.
We were also to use the organisation tool HackNPlan to organise and communicate tasks and progress.
We had very little time to make such a project, so, in turn, had very little playtesting. this would explain all the problems below.
-
Invisble walls were a crutch, and one that didn't work as players still found many ways to go out of bounds.
-
The code for the high jump seems to not work, as the ability is retained after switching away from the designated robot.
-
The lore was there in the early conception of the game, but was not implemented due to lack of time.
-
The level design and general difficulty curve for the platforming seems to be inconsistant.
-
I would have liked a more polished finished game, but all of us were short on time.
This was my first real first game using unreal engine. I learnt to handle different scenes on GitHub and use Blueprint to make a coherent experience.
Communication, patience, understanding, and perserverance.
