No I don't think that's necessary. The cross-platform snapshot problem is one with the QuEST plugin in general, but it is nonetheless a good standard choice for the simulator backend outside of snapshot tests.

@qartik has recently released qir-qis, a transpilation library that provides conversion from QIR to QIS.
This PR integrates support for this library directly in Selene. It provides detection of QIR inputs (whether bitcode or text, and whether file or string) by checking for common QIR function signatures, and steps that convert to QIS using QIR-QIS. This is naturally accepted by the remainder of the Selene build system.
The net result is that selene_sim.build can now accept QIR directly.
In future we aim to allow the number of qubits to be determined from the QIR metadata rather than passed as an argument to run and run_shots.
