@esmil I wrote a new C memcpy() which always copies 64 bit at time. This time the impact is very noticeable even in perf:

The commit d96febe ("net: stmmac: arrange Tx tail pointer update
to stmmac_flush_tx_descriptors") introduced the following coverity
warning:-
1. Unintentional integer overflow (OVERFLOW_BEFORE_WIDEN)
overflow_before_widen: Potentially overflowing expression
'tx_q->cur_tx * desc_size' with type 'unsigned int' (32 bits,
unsigned) is evaluated using 32-bit arithmetic, and then used in a
context that expects an expression of type dma_addr_t (64 bits,
unsigned).
Fixed this by assigning tx_tail_addr to dma_addr_t type, as dma_addr_t
datatype is decided by CONFIG_ARCH_DMA_ADDR_T_64_BIT.

On RX an SKB is allocated and the received buffer is copied into it.
But on some architectures, the memcpy() needs the source and destination
buffers to have the same alignment to be efficient.
This is not our case, because SKB data pointer is misaligned by two bytes
to compensate the ethernet header.
Align the RX buffer the same way as the SKB one, so the copy is faster.
An iperf3 RX test gives a decent improvement on a RISC-V machine:

Write a C version of memcpy() which uses the biggest data size allowed,
without generating unaligned accesses.
The procedure is made of three steps:
First copy data one byte at time until the destination buffer is aligned
to a long boundary.
Then copy the data one long at time shifting the current and the next u8
to compose a long at every cycle.
Finally, copy the remainder one byte at time.
On a BeagleV, the TCP RX throughput increased by 45%:

When the destination buffer is before the source one, or when the
buffers doesn't overlap, it's safe to use memcpy() instead, which is
optimized to use a bigger data size possible.
Signed-off-by: Matteo Croce <mcroce@microsoft.com>
The generic memset is defined as a byte at time write. This is always
safe, but it's slower than a 4 byte or even 8 byte write.
Write a generic memset which fills the data one byte at time until the
destination is aligned, then fills using the largest size allowed,
and finally fills the remaining data one byte at time.

Disabling IRQ #22
This happens because we don't invoke .enable_cbs callback in
virtio_device_restore(). That callback is used by some transports
(e.g. virtio-pci) to enable interrupts.
Let's fix it, by calling virtio_device_ready() as we do in
virtio_dev_probe(). This function calls .enable_cts callback and sets
DRIVER_OK status bit.
This fix also avoids setting DRIVER_OK twice for those drivers that
call virtio_device_ready() in the .restore.

Li Huafei reports that mcount-based ftrace with module PLTs was broken
by commit:
a625357 ("arm64: ftrace: consistently handle PLTs.")
When a module PLTs are used and a module is loaded sufficiently far away
from the kernel, we'll create PLTs for any branches which are
out-of-range. These are separate from the special ftrace trampoline
PLTs, which the module PLT code doesn't directly manipulate.
When mcount is in use this is a problem, as each mcount callsite in a
module will be initialized to point to a module PLT, but since commit
a625357 ftrace_make_nop() will assume that the callsite has
been initialized to point to the special ftrace trampoline PLT, and
ftrace_find_callable_addr() rejects other cases.
This means that when ftrace tries to initialize a callsite via
ftrace_make_nop(), the call to ftrace_find_callable_addr() will find
that the `_mcount` stub is out-of-range and is not handled by the ftrace
PLT, resulting in a splat:

Tests for races between shinfo_cache (de)activation and hypercall+ioctl()
processing. KVM has had bugs where activating the shared info cache
multiple times and/or with concurrent users results in lock corruption,
NULL pointer dereferences, and other fun.
For the timer injection testcase (#22), re-arm the timer until the IRQ
is successfully injected. If the timer expires while the shared info
is deactivated (invalid), KVM will drop the event.

The cited commit adds a compeletion to remove dependency on rtnl
lock. But it causes a deadlock for multiple encapsulations:

After the first encap is attached, flow will be added to encap
entry's flows list. If neigh update is running at this time, the
following encaps of the flow can't hold the encap_tbl_lock and
sleep. If neigh update thread is waiting for that flow's init_done,
deadlock happens.
Fix it by holding lock outside of the for loop. If neigh update is
running, prevent encap flows from offloading. Since the lock is held
outside of the for loop, concurrent creation of encap entries is not
allowed. So remove unnecessary wait_for_completion call for res_ready.

The following processes run into a deadlock. CPU 41 was waiting for CPU 29
to handle a CSD request while holding spinlock "crashdump_lock", but CPU 29
was hung by that spinlock with IRQs disabled.

The lock is used to synchronize different sysfs operations, it doesn't
protect any resource that will be touched by an interrupt. Consequently
it's not required to disable IRQs. Replace the spinlock with a mutex to fix
the deadlock.

When configuring a hugetlb filesystem via the fsconfig() syscall, there is
a possible NULL dereference in hugetlbfs_fill_super() caused by assigning
NULL to ctx->hstate in hugetlbfs_parse_param() when the requested pagesize
is non valid.
E.g: Taking the following steps:
fd = fsopen("hugetlbfs", FSOPEN_CLOEXEC);
fsconfig(fd, FSCONFIG_SET_STRING, "pagesize", "1024", 0);
fsconfig(fd, FSCONFIG_CMD_CREATE, NULL, NULL, 0);
Given that the requested "pagesize" is invalid, ctxt->hstate will be replaced
with NULL, losing its previous value, and we will print an error:
...
...
case Opt_pagesize:
ps = memparse(param->string, &rest);
ctx->hstate = h;
if (!ctx->hstate) {
pr_err("Unsupported page size %lu MB\n", ps / SZ_1M);
return -EINVAL;
}
return 0;
...
...
This is a problem because later on, we will dereference ctxt->hstate in
hugetlbfs_fill_super()
...
...
sb->s_blocksize = huge_page_size(ctx->hstate);
...
...
Causing below Oops.
Fix this by replacing cxt->hstate value only when then pagesize is known
to be valid.

When the PAGEMAP_SCAN ioctl is invoked with vec_len = 0 reaches
pagemap_scan_backout_range(), kernel panics with null-ptr-deref:

vec_len = 0 in pagemap_scan_init_bounce_buffer() means no buffers are
allocated and p->vec_buf remains set to NULL.
This breaks an assumption made later in pagemap_scan_backout_range(), that
page_region is always allocated for p->vec_buf_index.
Fix it by explicitly checking p->vec_buf for NULL before dereferencing.
Other sites that might run into same deref-issue are already (directly or
transitively) protected by checking p->vec_buf.
Note:
From PAGEMAP_SCAN man page, it seems vec_len = 0 is valid when no output
is requested and it's only the side effects caller is interested in,
hence it passes check in pagemap_scan_get_args().
