Problem

DPoP proof failures often appear as a generic connection error. Device clock mismatch is a common cause, but the same response can also come from an older T3 Connect server or relay, or from a different credential failure.

What changed

• Add typed, safe DPoP failure categories across the shared verifier, environment server, relay, and contracts.
• Show definite clock-sync guidance only for confirmed time-window failures.
• When an older server or relay omits the category, mention clock skew as one possible cause instead of presenting it as confirmed.
• Show neutral retry and trace-ID guidance for known non-clock failures.
• Keep the guidance single-line and centralized so existing web, desktop, and mobile error surfaces do not need special newline handling.
• Add focused tests, user and operations documentation, and stable observability attributes.

Compatibility

The response field is optional. Updated clients understand older responses, and older clients ignore the additive field. An absent category receives cautious compatibility guidance because it can mean either an older verifier or a credential failure after successful DPoP verification.

DPoP proof failures often appear as a generic connection error. Device clock mismatch is a common cause, but the same response can also come from an older T3 Connect server or relay, or from a different credential failure.

• Add typed, safe DPoP failure categories across the shared verifier, environment server, relay, and contracts.
• Show definite clock-sync guidance only for confirmed time-window failures.
• When an older server or relay omits the category, mention clock skew as one possible cause instead of presenting it as confirmed.
• Show neutral retry and trace-ID guidance for known non-clock failures.
• Keep the guidance single-line and centralized so existing web, desktop, and mobile error surfaces do not need special newline handling.
• Add focused tests, user and operations documentation, and stable observability attributes.

Compatibility

The response field is optional. Updated clients understand older responses, and older clients ignore the additive field. An absent category receives cautious compatibility guidance because it can mean either an older verifier or a credential failure after successful DPoP verification.
